[March 7th Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — New Year Greetings Photo Is Here

This custom-designed winter look actually took quite a while to prepare, from styling the wig to pairing fluffy accessories. I originally planned to wait until formal editing was finished before posting, but seeing the red lanterns and the scroll reading 'May All Your Wishes Come True' in this unedited shot felt so rich with festive spirit that I couldn't resist sneaking it out early.

The shoot coincided with a temple fair market, where bright red paper lanterns and warm yellow lighting created a charming contrast against the character's inherent cool, ice-element nature. I specifically selected a modified Hanfu with a white base, blue trim, and a large fluffy collar, retaining elegant traditional silhouette lines while remaining ideal for winter outdoor shooting. To complement the festive mood, eye makeup featured enhanced red blending with slightly elongated eyeliner, giving my gaze a livelier touch. Small flowers and fluffy ball decorations on the wig were hand-stitched piece by piece to match the character design while maintaining a casual 'everyday' feel for this custom version.

The biggest challenge during the shoot was actually the scroll. Because the gold foil lettering reflected light intensely, finding the right angle was essential to clearly display the words while ensuring even lighting across my face. The photographer and I adjusted position through multiple rounds, finally catching the shutter at the exact moment the lanterns lit up. Although blurred lanterns and pedestrians in the background brought a vibrant everyday atmosphere, keeping focus on the character and spring couplet scroll echoed scenes of visiting lantern festivals in Luofu or Starskiff Haven during game New Year celebrations.

As a cosplayer, every character portrayal aims to convey that persona's unique vitality. March 7th from Honkai: Star Rail is naturally cheerful, lively, a bit clumsy yet deeply warm, matching the hopeful, unifying tone of Lunar New Year perfectly. Thus, rather than copying her original tight combat suit, I opted for softer, more approachable fabrics to present her enjoying a holiday stroll. Fluffy collars and cuffs provided warmth while adding a touch of whimsical, youthful charm.

In post-processing, I made simple color balance tweaks to enrich reds and brighten golds while retaining natural skin texture and plush fluff detail. Avoiding heavy skin smoothing preserved the authentic 'quick snapshot' feeling of a genuine New Year photo. Many fans might wonder about location and prop details: we simply shot in a regular street lantern area, utilizing a wide aperture to blur busy backgrounds and focus attention on the interaction between character and scroll.

Creating New Year-themed photos presents a unique challenge for cosplayers, who must balance festive vibes, character traits, and personal aesthetics. I intentionally avoided generic solid red backdrops, using lanterns as foreground and background accents to build depth. Trying several poses, I settled on a subtle profile posture, holding the scroll up with two hands in a respectful gesture to convey sincere blessings.

Figure lighting and makeup styling were honed through hands-on trial; despite minor imperfections, stepping into character attire amidst bustling street scenes captures the pure immersion that makes cosplay so captivating.
