[Firefly Cosplay] Summer & Nostalgic Memories of Honkai: Star Rail

This time, I shot a set of campus style photography with a distinct summer atmosphere, serving as a memory of the sweltering summer that just passed. The photos were set in a textured Japanese-style room featuring wooden sliding doors, an old TV set, a wooden grid cabinet, and tatami flooring, fully filling the space with a sense of nostalgia and lived-in warmth.

As for hair and makeup, the wig color this time is a silvery-gray with an icy blue tint, styled with subtle curls and a faint teal-blue gradient at the ends, paired with small hair clips on both sides for a light, effortless look. The outfit is a standard sailor uniform featuring a long-sleeved white top with a dark collar, complemented by a wide teal-blue ribbon at the neckline that echoes the overall color scheme. For the bottom, I paired it with a gray-blue pleated plaid skirt and white thigh-high socks. In a summer setting, the combination of a sailor uniform and white thigh-highs outfit inherently brings a fresh, airy vibe.

The props used for the shoot were quite interesting. The vintage round fan with red floral prints, combined with small items in the room like an old radio, a small electric fan, and a lucky cat, enriched the composition nicely. In particular, the old television placed on the dark wooden cabinet—though powered off—reflected the light and shadow of the moment, adding a unique tone to the frame. The retro mini fan and the grapes on the table also perfectly matched the relaxed, cozy feel of a "summer gift."

During the shoot, we didn't pursue an intense visual shock. Instead, we followed the natural light, capturing the relaxed and carefree mood of an afternoon. The first photo features a standing pose with one leg slightly raised while holding the fan, achieving a balance between motion and stillness that makes it ideal for a cover image. The next two photos shifted to sitting poses—one on a cushion and another sitting cross-legged on the floor. When changing poses, adjusting the skirt hem and ribbon is a critical detail to ensure the clothing remains tidy.

Regarding light control, the natural backlight streaming through the glass doors created a gorgeous rim light around the hair and the edges of the skirt, which greatly enhanced the aesthetic. Managing the contrast ratio indoors kept the facial exposure smooth and even. However, summer light is quite harsh, so controlling facial shadows required patience on set, taking photos slowly while finding the exact angle.

As an extension of the "Spring Letter" theme, there is a subtle sense of lingering longing before saying goodbye. Although the theme title mentions spring, the imagery actually conveys a late-summer atmosphere—a final photo set for an unfinished summer. Overall, the outfit felt very comfortable to wear: the fabric was breathable, and the skirt length was just right, allowing for graceful lines whether standing or sitting on the tatami mat.

I personally favor cosplay photoshoots set in real-life scenarios, as it is not merely about displaying a costume or hairstyle, but rather bringing a 2D character into a tangible everyday space, giving the character a feeling of daily companionship. The details on set—such as the scent of the tatami mat or the wooden texture on the fan blades—bring authentic sensory touches into the photos, evoking a quiet yet clear emotional resonance.

While sorting through these photos, vivid imagery filled my head—sunlight, the chirping of cicadas, and the humming sound of a rotating fan. Achieving this atmosphere doesn't rely heavily on complex post-processing; it comes down to capturing light and shadow in camera and ensuring harmony between the props and the environment. I hope this photo set conveys that lazy yet peaceful afternoon ambiance of summer.
