Kicking off episode one of my white cyc series with Acheron from Honkai: Star Rail. A pure white seamless cyclorama means there is zero environmental scenery to lean on; every ounce of visual weight lands squarely on body silhouette, textile textures, and chiaroscuro lighting. To capture Acheron's icy composure, serene detachment, and simmering lethality, I prepped two completely distinct stylings for this shoot.

The first styling featured short deep-purple hair. The outfit is packed with asymmetrical elements: on the left, a white jacket with a blue-purple ombre gradient and a silver pauldron; on the right, an exposed shoulder paired with black leather straps and a bandeau top. The bottoms consist of black shorts paired with a metal-buckled utility belt. A black strapped knee brace accents the left thigh, while a crimson tattoo decal marks the outer right thigh. The wig was trimmed to shoulder length with an intentional streak of white, and once topped with spiked black head ornaments, that fierce, razor-sharp presence instantly came alive. While shooting this look, I held the long tachi blade horizontally; the scabbard features a white base with pink-purple patterns, and it carries substantial weight. The kneeling horizontal blade stance looks static on camera, but holding the sword level while keeping the spine upright demanded non-stop core and arm engagement. To highlight the interplay of leather and armor, the key light utilized broad softboxes, with rim-backlighting tracing the hair strands so the deep purple hair wouldn't bleed into an indistinct blob against the pure white cyclorama.

The second styling showcased the white long-hair form. Slipping into this black-and-crimson ensemble, the aura shifted into something noticeably more oppressive. The white ponytail is remarkably dense and heavy, requiring meticulous combing to achieve a sleek, non-reflective flow. The chest is detailed with black cord lacings and crimson talismans, paired with a long scarlet gauntlet sleeve on the right arm. The heaviest piece was undeniably the black cloak emblazoned with an imposing demonic mask motif, its hem etched with subtle crimson flame patterns that billowed with immense visual tension during walks or spins. The weapon was swapped for an extra-wide, dark-bladed greatsword. The single-knee kneeling draw stance, harmonizing with the fluid drape of the cloak, yielded phenomenal frames. A white cyclorama is clean, but it can easily look flat, so a reflector board was placed behind the waist to pop a rim highlight and peel the silhouette away from the backdrop.

The most exhausting part of White studio photography is how mercilessly it magnifies details. Every crease in the fabric, every stray hair on the wig, and every minor makeup blemish is magnified on a white backdrop. For eye makeup, to align the gaze with the persona, dark crimson eyeshadow was blended at the outer corners over red contact lenses, framed by elongated, razor-sharp eyeliner and low-saturation reddish-brown lips. When framing with water reflections, high-reflectance mirror foil was used to prevent the reflection from blurring into mush, requiring low camera angles and pinpoint focus to keep the subject crisp while capturing gentle ripples of visual distortion.

Transitioning between both stylings took a serious physical toll; hoisting the heavy long blade through frozen poses left my wrists and shoulders intensely sore. Yet the greatest perk of a white studio is sheer shooting efficiency—no outdoor location scouting, no weather interference, and as long as the light falls accurately, color fidelity is pristine. The shoot concentrated heavily on body language and eye contact, using minimal movement to project commanding intimidation. The tactile contrast was striking: matte white fabrics interwove with the glossy sheen of black leather. To balance the lighting ratio between these materials, a low-lumen strip light was added into the shadow side. False lashes were layered generously to give the crimson pupils extra vitality. It was an exhausting session, but seeing how the light sculpted the gradient coat and silver pauldrons straight out of camera made obsessing over every detail entirely worthwhile.
