Today, I brought the look of Cartethyia from Wuthering Waves in front of the camera. This cosplay photoshoot had been in preparation for quite a while; from the initial costume, makeup, and props to the final light and shadow polishing, I hoped to present the temperament that fits the original work best in every segment.
This styling design focuses heavily on a sense of lightness. The light golden long curls are paired with a blue-and-white gradient cutout halo headpiece, plus the iconic pointed elf ears, making the overall color tone lean toward a cool and translucent path. The fabric of the clothes utilizes a large amount of semi-transparent chiffon and thin tulle, adorned with dense starry elements and pale golden feather patterns. When wearing it and walking around, the cascading layers of the skirt hem float naturally. To fit the unconstrained feel of the original setting, I experimented with a barefoot look this time, paired with delicate silver anklets, which both preserves the character's intrinsic agility and makes it convenient to adjust various sitting and standing postures during the shoot.
In terms of scene selection, we cast aside cluttered backgrounds and specially picked this set of European vintage single chairs with Gothic arched panes. The white leather cushions paired with golden borders form a great response to the blue-and-white color scheme of the costume. The natural soft light filtering through the window panes, coordinated with the light blue floral embellishments in front of the lens, makes the color tone of the entire frame look exceptionally gentle. However, the shooting process was not easy; I had to continuously maintain a side-sitting posture with curled legs while letting my arms rest naturally on the armrests, which was truly a test of muscle control. Fortunately, the photographer @Takyi柒月 was excellent at guiding the atmosphere, always catching the most natural expressions when I was about to lose my balance.
There was also a \"little easter egg\" in this shoot, which is the three chibi cotton dolls appearing in the frame. They are customized plush dolls of the matching style based on this look, perfectly allowing for interaction with me. Placing them on my knees, the armrests, or even by my feet breaks the monotony of the original single-person sitting posture, while adding a touch of playfulness and intimacy. While organizing these plush doll props, the thought \"the heart remains by your side\" suddenly surfaced in my mind—this must be the feeling of being in a serene space, with light and shadow, plush dolls, and character companionship.
What I enjoy most about doing cosplay is actually this sense of accomplishment from meticulously polishing details and then recreating a 2D character through 3D attire, lighting, makeup, styling, and photography. Although Cartethyia's look this time features lightweight gauze, the luminous quality is hard to manage under harsh light. We used several different color temperature lights to test it, ultimately preserving this slightly translucent texture. While touching up makeup and organizing the wig during shooting intervals, looking at myself in the mirror with pointed elf ears, I would sometimes experience a dazed sensation of being immersed in another world.
This experience was highly special and fulfilling. In the world setting of Wuthering Waves, there are many aesthetic elements worth unearthing, and Wuthering Waves Cartethyia's outfit is undoubtedly the most dreamy and serene part of my heart. I hope everyone can feel this lightweight yet subtly warm mood I want to convey through these frozen frames.
