Shooting this Chen Hai Retrofit cosplay look was all about merging Dragon Empery's traditional cultural elements with Azur Lane's military shipgirl concept. The silver headpiece accents, the teardrop-shaped emblem on the chest, and the black-and-white gown hem all required meticulous adjustments. When going on location in this outfit, the most crucial part was securing the stockings and leg straps, because showcasing the character's calm, confident, and nonchalant seated posture required precise control over the body's silhouette.

For this shoot, I selected an elegant Ancient style cosplay studio, which, paired with my oiled-paper umbrella and traditional paper lanterns, infused the scene with Dragon Empery charm. The wooden low table and fretwork screen in the background provided a serene aesthetic that balanced Chen Hai Retrofit's sharp combat intent. Her character lore encompasses not only the strategic wisdom of chess-piece barrages, but also the commanding presence of carrier air wings piercing the sky. In front of the camera, I constantly reminded myself not to merely project gentleness, but to embody the confidence and composure of an Azur Lane shipgirl.

Preparing the costume took considerable effort, especially positioning the chest emblem and various accessories, as any slight tilt would disrupt the visual balance of the upper body. Furthermore, the long black gloves and semi-sheer Black stockings cosplay under the interplay of light and shadow strongly reinforced the character's modern aesthetic. When posing seated, the skirt hem had to conform to the leg contours while maintaining a natural drape, testing on-site styling adjustments. The simplest and most effective technique was taking deep breaths before each shot to center my balance, keeping my limbs relaxed and avoiding stiffness when the shutter clicked.

I personally adore characters with a touch of classical elegance. Chen Hai Retrofit's original illustration is exquisitely designed, embodying traditional Eastern aesthetics. Bringing this design to life through Roleplay was a wonderfully refreshing endeavor. Finding focus in a quiet, antique setting was a uniquely enjoyable aspect of the shoot.

Cosplay goes far beyond just putting on an outfit and posing; it requires aligning one's demeanor and temperament with the character. Even with a styled wig and refined makeup, conveying the character's aura through the eyes largely dictates the emotional expression of the photos. Looking at the final results, I am quite satisfied with my investment in the details.

Although packing props and outfits for an on-location shoot is always demanding, seeing myself merge seamlessly with the character makes every bit of effort worthwhile.
