As an astrologist, even though I budget future expenses in front of an astrolabe every day, facing the camera lens in reality still requires a bit of light cooperation. Shooting Mona from Genshin Impact this time, I did some homework in advance—not just to recreate her look, but more to capture that unique temperament she possesses. The giant purple wizard hat everyone notices at first glance is my favorite part; it occupies almost the top half of the frame.
For the wig, I specifically chose a flowing deep purple long straight wig, as Mona's hair looks voluminous yet natural. The wispy bangs on the forehead and sides required careful styling to drape right above the eyes without appearing heavy. For eye makeup, I used subtle reddish smudging paired with grey contact lenses, trying to recreate her reflective or slightly mysterious gaze before the camera. The off-the-shoulder design of the outfit is another highlight; while quite demanding on shoulder and neck lines during shoots, pairing it with a matching choker and delicate pendant hopefully adds a touch of elegance to this Astrologist cosplay.
As for Mona's character personality, players familiar with Genshin Impact know it well. She is a scholar fanatically devoted to astrology; though possessing the ability to discern fate, her everyday life is often constrained by poverty. This contrast is intriguing, so in facial expression control, I deliberately refrained from exaggerated laughter, maintaining instead a slightly melancholic or translucent calmness. Through a deep gaze into the lens, I hoped to express her devotion to truth—even when penniless, her eyes must radiate a learned scholar's pride.
During this photoset shoot, the giant hat indeed caused quite a headache regarding lighting. Due to the wide brim, it easily cast harsh shadows across the face. In the end, we chose a slightly elevated high-angle perspective, augmented by indoor softbox fill light, to achieve this gentle lighting effect. Background blur covered clutter in the studio, leaving a deep ambiance akin to a starry sky. Also, special thanks to my friend who helped retouch the photos; the Finch watermark on the images marks our friend collaboration. The post-processing additions of soft focus texture and sparkle effects truly added a dreamy atmosphere to the final images in this Anime cosplay.
Wearing this gear for studio shoots is actually quite exhausting. Wearing the wig for long periods gets stuffy, and while the hat looks fantastic, one must constantly ensure it doesn't slip off. When adjusting poses, slightly lowering or tilting the head creates a casual yet mystical vibe. Since Mona is inherently someone who enjoys solitude and reflecting over astrolabes, close-up shots like these—without excessive body movements, relying purely on face and eyes to convey emotion—make it easier to connect with the character's inner world in this Mona cosplay.
Every cosplay of a new character is a journey of re-understanding their setting. Rather than simply putting on costume attire, finding how one's own expression resonates with that 2D soul is where the real fun lies. I hope this photography set conveys the unique charm of this great astrologist—not just gorgeous costumes, but a scholar's aura of staying true to oneself and trusting in fate. Feeling her inner pride firsthand allows one to remain poised with her signature composure, even when facing an unknown destiny in Genshin Impact cosplay.
