[Changli Cosplay] Wuthering Waves Danhuang Token: Cosplay photoshoot Share Under the Flame Paper Umbrella

With the Danhuang Token and the flame paper umbrella coming together, Phase 2 of this Wuthering Waves Changli Cosplay photoshoot was successfully completed.

Let's first discuss the styling details of this recreation. The main costume is centered on a red-and-white palette, paired with a black off-the-shoulder inner layer. The outer layer features a dark leather half-cape accented with belt buckles; its substantial texture adds great dimension to the character. For the wig, I selected a pink-to-white gradient style that closely matches the character, topped with her iconic black headpiece, which provides structural support while flattering face contours. To style this wig properly, I spent considerable time adjusting the curls at the ends before getting into makeup, especially the curves of the two long braids, which needed to curl inward to create a light yet voluminous visual effect.

The most challenging aspect of this look actually lay in coordinating the props and accessories. The flame paper umbrella in hand is the true soul of the entire styling. The white base with red patterns not only shaded the light during shooting but also infused the scene with a classical Chinese charm in this Ancient style cosplay. The orange-red long gloves are not only visually striking in color, but they also broke up the conventional rhythm of the black, white, and red palette, appearing exceptionally soft under sunlight.

Wearing this costume was by no means easy, especially the lower body design: black star-patterned stockings paired with dark high heels severely tested my stability while walking. To capture the character's agile and slightly playful demeanor in this Stockings cosplay, I attempted dynamic balance poses with one leg lifted in mid-air. Any slight loss of center of gravity meant starting over, but fortunately, using the paper umbrella as support made the extension of the motion look very natural. When wearing black stockings, ensuring the fabric surface stays completely smooth without snags or pilling was essential to keep the leg lines looking sleek and fluid.

For makeup, the eye makeup emphasized warm-toned blending to make my gaze sharper and more expressive. The overall creative concept aimed to create a contrast that felt both cool and approachable—especially when shooting in the bamboo garden and the corridor with red-lacquered pillars, where the environmental colors echoed the character's red-and-white palette. The red pillars and hollow carvings of the corridor, combined with red lanterns hanging under the eaves, provided fantastic depth and framing in the composition.

Huge thanks to photographer @龙骧nightfall for their dedicated collaboration, skillfully utilizing the corridor's depth of field to emphasize spatial layering around the subject. The lighting during the first day's outdoor shoot was very gentle; natural light filtering onto the pink-and-white wig rendered the texture with high accuracy. During the shoot, we constantly adjusted the angle of holding the umbrella according to the environment, ensuring the ribs wouldn't block the light while keeping the umbrella's patterns fully visible in frame.

The shoot had its fair share of minor episodes. For instance, to avoid the gaze of tourists in the corridor, we often had to seize fleeting gaps in foot traffic to freeze a pose quickly. Additionally, because high heels slipped easily on stone slabs, raising a leg required knee control to hold balance; ultimately, those dynamic action captures became some of the most memorable shots in the set. In particular, the photo sitting on a stone bench beside the bamboo forest—holding the paper umbrella behind me, paired with a shushing finger gesture and eye contact with the lens—conveyed the character's poised confidence wonderfully.

Truly bringing Changli to life relies on faithful costumes and props, but even more so on using expressions and body language to get closer to her spirit. Whether sitting sideways on stone steps glancing at the camera with the paper umbrella, or making a gentle silence gesture with eye contact, every detail seeks to capture her narrative essence. The antique charm of traditional Chinese gardens added a realistic aesthetic texture to this photoshoot. Although late July weather was slightly sultry, shooting in the shade and bamboo groves yielded a cool, crisp, and clean visual result.

This Cosplay photoshoot mainly aimed to showcase the character's dashing poise without pursuing overly exaggerated melodrama. Through storyboarding around the umbrella and setting the shots against red walls and green tiles, the frames achieved a harmonious and comfortably natural visual aesthetic. After wrapping up, though physically tired, seeing the lighting and texture in the raw photos made all the hard work feel completely worthwhile. The overall accuracy of the styling met expectations, laying a solid foundation for more diverse Ancient style cosplay style experiments in the future.
