Today, I took a set of very satisfying photos at the Porsche Itasha booth in the expo hall. Without a specific character setting this time, I self-coordinated a styling to match the Itasha vibe. The hair was a black and white dual-tone hairstyle wig adorned with black bow hair accessories on both sides, with heart and cross stickers added to the cheeks to enhance visual impact. In terms of attire, I wore a cropped red jacket over a white collared shirt with a black necktie, paired with a black pleated skirt and a Black tights outfit underneath. The overall look conveys a slightly cyber-techwear everyday aesthetic.
The term "Itasha" actually originates from Japan, referring to decorating vehicles with anime character decals or custom wraps. Seeing these massive car bodies plastered with 2D character illustrations in person was genuinely awe-inspiring. Especially when lights struck the car's glossy finish, the body reflections combined with harsh overhead lighting imposed very high demands on Cosplay photography lighting. The photographer worked tirelessly, constantly scouting angles to avoid blown-out glare.
The plush tomato doll in my hand and the tomato floor cushion were brought along specifically for this shoot. The vibrant red tomatoes matched the red-and-black outfit seamlessly, infusing the frame with playful energy rather than looking flat. Incorporating props into Anime convention cosplay shoots greatly relieves any stiffness in hand poses.
To showcase the Black tights outfit and body proportions, I chose a seated pose on the tomato cushion, facing the camera at an angle. With one leg naturally bent and the other extended outwards, this visually elongated the leg contours. A life-sized character standee placed nearby added extra depth to the composition.
Convention hall lighting is often rather unforgiving for cosplayers—overhead lights easily cast heavy shadows under the eyes, and safety stanchions cordoning off the Itasha restricted mobility. Consequently, every change of pose required micro-adjusting angles within a confined perimeter. However, the custom Itasha wrap was gorgeous, blending with background anime elements to evoke the thrilling sensation of breaking through the fourth dimension. For makeup, I highlighted the eyes with reddish-brown colored contacts and smoked-out outer corner gradients, ensuring a piercing gaze even under bright glare. The sheen and texture of the Black tights outfit under stage lights were also paramount.
Witnessing so many fellow enthusiasts passionate about ACG culture and car modifications on site, everyone bursting with vibrant energy, made the atmosphere truly precious. Although walking all day in high heels across the venue was exhausting, posing alongside such a stunning Itasha and preserving these moments through Cosplay photography made every bit of effort worthwhile. The true magic of an anime convention lies not just in stage performances, but in these shared moments of connection with fellow fans.
