When shooting this kimono version of Altria from Fate/Grand Order, we encountered heavy snowfall, instantly elevating the scene's atmosphere to its peak. Because it was a backlit night view cosplay shoot, the light source filtering through the paper umbrella crisply sculpted my facial contours and the cool tones of the garment. The blue eyes and blonde hair aligned seamlessly with the character's traits, naturally bringing out that icy detachment in my gaze the moment I donned the outfit.
This photo set was shot together with photographer Huangzu. Despite the heavy snow, we stood in the cold for a long time to harmonize with the paper umbrella, the stone pavement underfoot, and the unique serenity of the night. The blue-and-white floral kimono paired with a white shawl created a very cool, elegant visual impact. However, the shoot was a real test of endurance—holding the paper umbrella for extended periods made my arms ache, while I had to keep the orange tassels in hand and the lace trim along the collar naturally draped. At the same time, we had to constantly watch for snowflakes landing on my eyes or wig, which could compromise the makeup.
The backlit setup truly tested the texture of the garments. The white umbrella canopy offered excellent light translucency, producing a dreamlike halo effect. Illuminated by the light, the falling snowflakes looked like tiny floating motes. To complement the overall cool palette, the makeup incorporated a fair foundation and light blue contact lenses, which created an intriguing subtle warm-and-cool contrast against the golden hair and red headpiece. The location was much colder than expected, but fortunately, the layered outfit was thick enough to withstand some of the chill.
For cosplay enthusiasts, capturing such an atmospheric snow portrait goes beyond styling and makeup; the greatest joy lies in the synergy with the photographer. To nail this moment, we tested several angles, constantly adjusting the umbrella's tilt and body posture. The final outcome captured the character's stern yet graceful aura far beyond expectations. There are so many details in this set that I adore, such as the radial lines formed by the translucent umbrella ribs and the delicate white lace trim around the neckline. Though exhausting, the entire experience was deeply rewarding. Sharing these photos leaves behind a truly memorable winter record.
