[Dusk cosplay] Arknights Sui family, the unfulfilled fairy in the painting

Regarding this set of Arknights Dusk photos, the most agonizing choice during the shoot was whether to add a dragon. The unfulfilled desire mentioned in the post description is precisely the core emotion this shoot aimed to express. During post-processing, I added a cyan-blue ink dragon special effect to the first image; the dragon's head coils in the upper right of the frame, and its body winds to the left, instantly maximizing the tension of the entire composition and creating the impact of a fairy breaking out of a scroll. The second image removes the dragon, returning the visual center entirely to the costume and the character herself, making the composition cleaner and more restrained.
I ultimately chose the first image as the main photo because the addition of the dragon gives the photographic rhythm ups and downs. In terms of set design, a backdrop with a red sun was constructed this time, paired with white plum blossoms and cyan-green landscape, creating a very strong color contrast. Red represents obsession and passion, while cyan-white brings out a cold detachment. The glowing lantern held in hand is an important prop for guiding the line of sight; when the arm is raised, the light spills down through the wide cuffs, illuminating the cyan-and-white alternate gauze fabric and the central red vertical line. The dark blue gloves and goggles add a touch of mechanical feel, forming an interesting echo with the classical skirt hem.
The shooting process was actually a severe test of physical strength, especially holding the lantern to maintain a standing posture while controlling facial expressions and dealing with the visual restriction brought by the goggles blocking the eyes. When composing, the photographer deliberately left a vertical line frame in the background, using plum blossoms as the foreground to partially obscure the edges of the frame, enhancing the sense of layering. The mood of unfulfilled desire is difficult to define purely through posing, so we subtracted elements in the action design, trying to maintain static dignity and relying on the gaze and lantern posture to convey an untouchable longing.
Regarding post-processing color grading, the focus was placed on separating the blue-green of the background from the pure white of the foreground. The dragon's scales and hair did not adopt a realistic style, but instead used brushstrokes resembling watercolor washes to prevent the special effects from being too abrupt and destroying the overall traditional Chinese style tone. This cosplay costume has many layers; the folds on the skirt hem and cuffs carry rich details under light and shadow, and using side-backlighting during shooting to outline the edges well reflects the lightweight feel of the gauze.
Overall, this time we did not add too many additional elements, but instead made a concrete arrangement of Dusk's obsession and loneliness through visual elements. From the warm light of the prop lantern to the cold hardness of the background red sun, to the addition and trade-off of the ink dragon, every step attempts to restore that charm interwoven between reality and illusion. I hope to convey this static beauty tinged with regret through the photos.
