To participate in this Valorant Challenge, I dedicated a significant amount of time to styling and prep. Starting with the overall makeup: light-colored contacts paired with broad strokes of red eyeshadow and blush, with sharply winged eyeliner extending at the corners to give the gaze a piercing sharpness in close-ups. Controlling the blending boundary was crucial to avoid a muddy look. Contouring along the bridge of the nose added dimension, and paired with a radiant, toothy grin, the overall look channeled a strong 2D vibe.
The wig required the most effort today. The color gradient transitioning from deep blue to pinkish-purple along the tips was built layer by layer. The small black horns on top were custom resin pieces, firmly anchored into the cropped wig sections using hairspray and bobby pins. The long silver hairpin clips on both sides had to be set at precise angles to follow the hairstyle without crushing the wig's volume. Worried about flyaways during photos, I kept hairspray handy in my bag for quick touch-ups.
For the outfit, the crisp white jacket combined with contrasting purple, red, and yellow sleeves created high-impact visual drama. The inner layer was a black high-neck top featuring white typography at the collar, which framed the jagged-tooth necklace to create an eye-catching focal point right at the V-shaped neckline. Wearing the jacket half-zipped worked nicely with selfie angles to highlight the sleeve patterns.
Walking around the venue, the setup for this Valorant Challenge exuded authentic esports energy; the red-and-black stage backdrop was great for photos. Because the character styling aligned with the competitive spirit of VALORANT and Valorant Mobile, the aesthetic struck a balance between edgy coolness and playful charm. Many attendees and photographers snapped photos, and that surrounding energy helped me fully step into character. When snapping phone selfies, I adjusted my angles to catch balanced, even lighting across the face, which perfectly brought out the flush on the cheeks.
This look requires crisp, neat lines, particularly around the collar and sleeves, which I smoothed down repeatedly. While the wig is packed with details, keeping the parting clean and combing the strands downward was essential to prevent a messy look. Selfies might look effortless, but the prep behind them takes genuine work.
All in all, today was a fantastic experience. While esports-inspired styling is common at anime conventions, wearing it to a dedicated gaming tournament creates a distinct chemistry. The makeup held up nicely under indoor lighting—the red eyeshadow was bold without feeling overbearing, contrasting cleanly against the white jacket. If another event like this comes along, I'll definitely dive into a strongly defined look like this again.
