Shooting this Blue sky photobook, I brought 37's cosplay to life. We invested immense care into set construction, aiming to evoke an ethereal, sacred atmosphere. Anchored by classical Roman pillars, sprawling beds of emerald moss, and blue-and-white hydrangeas paired with flowing white drapes, the color palette settled into an exquisite balance of cool serenity and gentle warmth.
The prop team brought white doves and vintage birdcages. The presence of the white doves elevated the scene's dynamic vitality—whether taking flight or resting peacefully, they allowed us to capture organic, breathtaking moments without forced staging. Lighting was pivotal on shoot day: warm golden rim backlighting paired with dry ice to simulate hazy smoke effects produced a dreamy, luminous aura that traced hair strands and skirt hems with radiant contour lines.
For hair, makeup, and styling, the long wavy Blue hair was custom-crafted with silver-white gradient strands, complemented by azure contact lenses and an intricate forehead circlet. The attire was woven from champagne gold and white satin, accented by gilded upper-arm cuffs and flowing tassels that felt wonderfully weightless, drifting gracefully with every breeze. To capture beauty across multiple perspectives, the photographer and I explored diverse poses.
I especially love the high-angle overhead shot: lying on the lawn, the long blue hair rippled outwards like clear water, legs extended naturally, as the hemline melted seamlessly into the surrounding floral bed for a serene, sweeping composition. Another favorite is the reclining profile holding a bouquet with eyes cast slightly upward, accentuating facial contours and gaze. The glance back beside the fountain was equally enchanting, where the turned torso and windswept locks conveyed the character's signature lightness.
The shoot was far more physically taxing than the effortless stills suggest. Tracking the flight paths of the doves while chasing optimal light angles required endless repositioning across the set. Because satin is exceptionally slick, dynamic poses required constant vigilance over shoulder straps and skirt drapes. Lying across the turf also demanded disciplined facial composure and core control to preserve that tranquil, static elegance. I participated in post-production grading concepts as well, primarily sharpening the contrast between gold and blue while keeping the vibrant vitality of the natural landscape intact.
Wrapping the entire shoot and watching the 2D character concept materialize into concrete imagery brought deep creative fulfillment. Exploring this classical fantasy aesthetic has sparked countless ideas for future projects. More concepts are already in progress, and I look forward to sharing diverse visual styles soon.
