Today's set was captured by the sea right under the blazing sun. To faithfully recreate the presence of Sunohara Kokona from Blue Archive along the coast, I prepared this blue-and-white gingham swimsuit in advance, styled the silver-grey long hair into a thick braid, and added animal-ear headband accessories. Maintaining a wig silhouette in ocean breezes is quite tricky, especially around the bangs and sideburns, which required several coats of hairspray to lock securely in place.
The wardrobe design fits the coastal theme seamlessly: the blue-and-white checkered top features thin spaghetti straps and a cropped midriff cut, while the bottoms are styled in a pleated skirt silhouette with blue waist ties, looking fresh and full of energy. The shoot took place in the afternoon when sunlight beamed straight down, making the sand scorching and the seawater remarkably salty. For the very first shot, I spread both arms wide and raised my left leg back just as a large swell surged in, splashing water all over me—my expression was purely candid and unfiltered.
Keeping balance in surging seawater truly tests core stability, especially when standing on one leg. When taking the second shot with hands raised, I stood facing into the sea breeze for a long time to let the hair catch the wind, while doing my best to resist squinting against the glare. The third shot is my personal favorite: turning back over the shoulder with one hand resting on the swim ring. This angle flatters bodily contours beautifully, and with natural sunlight sweeping across the skin, the transition between highlights and shadows feels effortless. To keep the background clean, I positioned myself in the shallows where gentle waves merely brushed past the ankles, using the swim ring as a visual anchor to enhance the resort vacation mood.
The chosen prop was a blue-and-white striped swim ring, matching the swimsuit palette naturally. Standing upright while steadying the swim ring on the sand demanded surprising arm engagement, as the sand was soft and the lightweight ring was easily tilted by gusts of wind. To catch genuine expressions, I tried numerous takes, ultimately settling on shielding my forehead with one hand while meeting the lens directly for a relaxed state. In the final selects, the contrast between skin tones, seawater, and the open sky feels wonderfully harmonious, preserved with natural light tones rather than heavy filters.
Though shooting under the elements was exhausting, seeing the final images makes it entirely worthwhile. Coastal lighting shifts rapidly, requiring swift calibration of poise and movement with each frame. Overall, this seaside portrayal of Sunohara Kokona stayed true to character from wardrobe to props while infusing a breezy vacation charm, making for a truly delightful creative shoot.
