[Takanashi Hoshino cosplay] Blue Archive, Autumn Location Shoot in the Bald Cypress Forest

Just as the Bald Cypress in Guangzhou entered its peak viewing period, I happened to finish shooting this autumn location set for Takanashi Hoshino. Heading out in the afternoon when the sunlight leans toward a warm yellow, the light texture by the water is perfect for shooting this kind of casual cosplay with a daily life vibe. The combination of the sweater and the khaki pleated skirt itself fits the autumn outdoor atmosphere beautifully, and with the halo accessory on the head and pure white over-the-knee socks, the styling preserves that slightly lazy school feel of the character.

The weather was exceptionally good on the day of the shoot. The afternoon warm light pierced through the branches and leaves of the Bald Cypress, leaving mottled light and shadow on the boardwalk and grass. The mixed lighting method of backlighting and side lighting managed to create a soft rim highlight around the edges of the hair; the pink wig looks relatively transparent under this kind of light instead of appearing too harsh. Regarding props, although that taiyaki cannot be eaten, holding it in hand to coordinate with the movements perfectly recreates the playful feel of conversing with Sensei in the original work. To prevent the prop from looking out of place, I tried my best to adjust the holding angle during the shoot, allowing the red pattern on the paper bag to form a subtle color echo with the brown bowtie on the skirt hem.

This time, the location was chosen at Jiulong Lake, Guangzhou, where the shoreline and layers of Bald Cypress are incredibly rich, allowing for excellent Photography at Jiulong Lake, Guangzhou. The golden-yellow leaves reflecting on the water surface not only make the background look clean but also increase the spatial depth of the frame. I paid close attention to composition when taking this set of photos, keeping the character centered or slightly to one side as much as possible to avoid being blocked by cluttered branches. I quite like the standing-on-one-leg posture in the third photo, which showcases the matching proportions of the skirt hem and white thigh-high socks while making me look a bit more relaxed and lively. The pairing of loafers and socks is classic, perfectly embodying the layered feel of an Autumn outfit.

When appearing on camera, to stay close to Takanashi Hoshino's usual state, the expressions weren't intentionally made exaggerated; instead, I mostly maintained a relaxed, slightly smiling subtle expression. The photographer's snapshot speed was quite fast, capturing relatively natural moments before the light shifted. Wind is the biggest worry for an autumn location shoot, but fortunately, the wind wasn't strong that day, so the forms of the wig and skirt hem were basically preserved. Although my arm got a bit sore from holding the taiyaki prop throughout the entire shooting process, seeing the warm, fluffy texture of the sunlight spilling over the sweater in the final photos made me feel it was entirely worth it.

Location shooting actually thoroughly tests the unspoken chemistry and cooperation between the model and the photographer because light moves very fast, requiring constant adjustments to the standing positions to ensure proper facial light and shadow. This time, we also brought some small props to use as base fill light, guaranteeing that the facial contours remained sharp while preventing the background details from washing out due to strong light. The post-processing mainly focused on restoring the warm golden tones of the scene, slightly compressing the highlights to make the colors of the tree trunks and fallen leaves by the water appear more grounded. The straps on the khaki skirt and the plaid patchwork on the side are also quite clear on camera, without losing any details to reflections.

For this kind of casual cosplay work, I care more about whether the overall atmosphere makes people feel comfortable rather than purely chasing gorgeous special effects or complex, grand scenes. The autumn-exclusive elements like fallen leaves, the lake surface, and the boardwalk, paired with the character's own academy-style clothing, are visually highly harmonious. After finishing this set, I feel that Takanashi Hoshino's little daily routine of lazily eating snacks on an autumn afternoon is actually perfectly suited to be presented with this photography style. This Bald Cypress location shoot went smoothly from scouting to the final photos, and I also thank the photographer for their patient cooperation. Although it isn't some massive production, as a cosplay piece recording beautiful autumn moments, the overall completeness has reached my expectations. Looking back to organize this set of photos again, I can still recall the shimmering glimmer on the water surface that afternoon and that refreshing autumn feeling standing beneath the bald cypress trees.
