Capturing these convention shots for Ellen from Zenless Zone Zero at the Changchun anime convention fulfilled my long-standing wish to cosplay this mechanical shark maid. Visually, the most captivating aspect is this monochrome battle Maid outfit: staged in the exhibition hall's corridor, the crisp, cool white fluorescent lighting created an intense contrast against the abundant black leather strapping and white lace trims, making the final frames pop brilliantly. The headpiece features razor-sharp serrated metallic accents, which paired with a navy-blue wig streaked with red highlights and crimson contacts instantly transformed my entire demeanor. I also invested heavily in precision-cutting the wig, building distinct layers that framed the jawline cleanly.

The lower-body styling is something I especially want to highlight. The skirt features an asymmetrical cut—short in front and long in back—which paired with the white apron design adds rich structural depth. I wore sheer black Stockings complemented by a pair of spiked metallic thigh garters, and stepped into chunky block-heeled platform shoes to maximize visual tension. While these shoes look phenomenal on camera, standing in them for extended stretches was truly exhausting, though they undeniably elongated my leg lines. Weapon-wise, the massive mechanical polearm was the centerpiece, echoing the red, white, and black palette across the blade. Add in the colossal mechanical shark tail on my back—secured firmly around my waist with multiple leather belts and chains—mobility was somewhat restricted, but the mechanical presence was undeniable.

Throughout the session, I worked through three primary stances: crouching, sitting sideways, and standing. In the crouching frame, balancing the weapon rested across my shoulders required strong core engagement, while keeping my left hand planted on the ground demanded that my nail polish harmonized with the overarching palette. In the side-sitting shot, resting the long polearm horizontally tested the composition, but the photographer framed the angle impeccably, capturing the black Stockings and chunky shoes beneath the skirt hem with flawless balance. The standing shot served as a classic showcase: hands on hips with an upright chest to present the weapon's tactile texture in full view. I continually adjusted the wig's bangs and weapon positioning, as broad contrasts of black and white can easily look cluttered if the framing angle shifts even slightly.

The atmosphere at the Changchun convention was fantastic, filled with fellow enthusiasts who praised the costume's fidelity. Translating mechanical CGI props into reality is notoriously tough, so I selected lightweight builds finished with metallic paint coats. The interplay of maid lace ruffles and leather straps, grounded in that classic red, black, and white palette, looked fiercely combative yet retained a playful edge. Both the corridor lighting and venue worked in our favor, allowing post-processing to remain minimal and preserve authentic real-life textures.
