Shooting these convention photos of the Honkai Impact 3rd Elysia: Herrscher of Human look focuses on capturing that unique sweet temperament of the character. The pink short hair with white highlights, paired with the tassel headpiece, and the details of the elf ears and eye makeup were all handled to stay close to the character setting. The costume incorporates a large number of pink-and-white and violet elements; the rose decorations on the neck and waist, combined with the tulle splicing design on the chest, preserve the lightness of a young girl while taking into account the gorgeousness of a formal gown. The long white gloves and lace-edged long white stockings visually continue the translucency of the overall styling.
The environment on the day of the shoot was an indoor venue with dense linear cool light sources overhead. This kind of lighting is actually quite challenging for indoor photography; if not handled well, it will form strong reflections or shadows on the head. But in the convention photos, I actually feel that this industrial style and cool white light scene can form a wonderful collision of cold beauty and sweetness with this set of pink-toned clothing. The gray felt mat on the ground provided a down-to-earth visual foundation and also made it very convenient to sit or kneel to take photos.
The emotions brought by different postures are actually quite different. For example, choosing to half-kneel while holding the fluffy tulle skirt can show the dynamic sense of the layers of the skirt hem; the posture of sitting on a high platform with one leg up tends to show the playful and capable side of the character; while the final posture of sitting on the ground, gently touching the tassels or leaning against the edge, is relatively lazy and soft. The frontal kneeling posture, combined with the gaze directly at the lens, best restores the gentle, confident, and seemingly forever-smiling companionship in the character's setting.
To avoid affecting the fluffy lower skirt hem and the overall airiness, I didn't use too many complex special effects or hard light, but relied more on the light at the scene and the material of the clothing itself to present it. This kind of unadorned convention photo record can actually better reflect the original texture of the character. Although wearing this gorgeous and heavy dress for a long time, plus the fact that the elf ears needed constant adjustment for fit, was a bit of a test for physical strength, seeing the scenes presented in the lens made all the hardships worth it. I feel very lucky to be able to present the unique charm of that pink girl in Honkai Impact 3rd with the most authentic posture and emotions during such a creative process of Anime-style photography.
