When preparing this summer swimsuit-oriented photoshoot set, I knew it had to have a strong tropical vacation feel, so the venue was specifically chosen as an indoor studio where a large area of sand could be laid down and elements like a pool and lounge chairs could be built. The version of Elysia featured this time inherently carries a lightweight texture in her setting. Combined with this iconic pink wig and pointed elf ears for this elf ear cosplay, it provides a very translucent visual feedback under the high-brightness studio lights.
There are actually quite a few tailoring details on the outfit. The upper body adopts a black and white color-blocked split design, with the bow at the neckline and the buckles made quite intricately. The arm sleeves utilize a light blue transparent thin tulle material; although it looks lightweight, the texture is excellent, and the flowing feel is incredibly strong in the wind or during movements. The lower body is a distinctly layered white ruffled short skirt paired with black safety shorts and a thigh ring, overall preserving that playfulness and cuteness of an anime character while possessing the cooling factor required for this scene.
During the shoot, we prepared quite a few small props to enrich the composition. That yellow rubber ducky and the blue toy water gun held in hand not only make hand postures more natural but also generate a vibrant sense of interaction with still objects. When lying on the white lounge chair, the camera position adjusted several angles to capture the most relaxed state. I personally quite like that lazy expression looking at the lens in the finished photos, which, coordinated with the sand on the ground, the yellow surfboard, and the cacti in the background, makes the overall layering of the frame exceptionally rich.
It's worth mentioning that the pointed elf ear cosplay styling paired with the makeup this time made my facial features more three-dimensional. Because the main costume is quite revealing and cool, maintaining a smooth body silhouette in front of the lens heavily tested core strength. Especially the pose stretching both legs out over the edge of the blue and white tiles by the pool, needing to be both relaxed and extended while avoiding rigidity. The photographer used high-key lighting in this photo set, keeping the white clothing from being jarring and instead forming a soft-toned texture image.
This was actually a piece of physical labor too, needing to maintain the wig's fluffiness at all times to prevent it from sticking due to sweat, while also staying constantly aware not to let grains of sand ruin the cleanliness of the clothes when repeatedly adjusting sitting postures on the sand. Though the shooting process had some twists and turns, seeing the final photos made me feel the initially desired effect was achieved. Everyone arranged quite a few environmental props for this set, including the surfboard standing nearby and the straw-woven parasol. Although it was an indoor studio shoot, the atmosphere created carried a strong sense of immersion like being at the seaside.
Shooting in this kind of short top requires relaxing the body. Because the movements of knees and arms will be fully presented in the lens, if not extended, the whole person will look very constrained. I personally prefer those moments of legs hanging down naturally or lifting hands up to gesture with small props; that casual sense of interaction is often much more vivid than deliberately forcing a pose.
Looking back at this set of finished photos after wrapping up the shoot, the overall color brightness is very high, with blue, white, pink, and sand colors blending beautifully in the frame with a refreshing summer vibe. It is not just about costume restoration, but more about showcasing that lively and slightly playful trait of the character through physical expression. Whether leaning by the pool or nesting in the beach chair, every finished photo has its own unique sense of atmosphere, and I hope this refreshing, heat-dispelling feeling can be transmitted through the images for this Anime cosplay showcase.
