For this shoot of Blue Archive's Arona in her gym uniform, quite a bit of thought went into choosing the location. To fit that summer campus and athletic feel, we finally settled on an outdoor stadium stand. The large area of blue seating on the stand and Arona's signature light blue short hair formed a wonderful color echo, making the overall frame look exceptionally refreshing.
During the styling preparation stage, the wig and the white bow hair accessory on top of the head were key points. The arc of the bangs and the wispy hairs at the sideburns needed repeated trimming to present a relatively natural 2D texture in front of the lens. The gym uniform's silhouette was chosen as a relatively form-fitting style, paired with dark blue athletic shorts and white-bottomed sneakers, restoring the character's everyday vibe as much as possible. The addition of white socks is also a small detail that enhances the girlish feel. To prevent the clothes from looking too loose, I slightly adjusted the waist area to make the body proportions look better in front of the lens. The choker on the neck is also the finishing touch; although inconspicuous, wearing it immediately elevated the character's recognition quite a bit.
During the shooting process, outdoor natural light was actually quite a challenge. To avoid harsh overhead lighting leaving unattractive shadows on the face, we tried our best to utilize the stadium's stairs and railings for positioning. There are many sitting postures in this photo set, and adjusting postures on hard plastic seating is actually not easy. To make the leg lines look more slender and relaxed, I would try sitting sideways or with legs slightly bent and crossed, while keeping the upper body upright and poised, so that the posture captured by the lens would look relatively natural. The sneakers worn during the shoot might look bulky, but they are actually very versatile—stepping casually on the steps or taking them off and placing them nearby like in the picture both add to the storytelling of the frame.
To better recreate Arona's demeanor, my expression management leaned toward a state of being slightly lazy yet intensely focused on the camera. Holding a bottle of mineral water or resting a hand on the railing were both meant to keep body movements from looking stiff, making it feel more lively and grounded. Gazing into the distance from the stands or casually sitting on the steps, without any overly deliberate actions, brought out that quiet feeling of waiting at the stadium. Sometimes I would also try reaching out toward the lens, adding a bit of first-person interactive feel, making viewers feel as if they were truly meeting her at the stadium.
In post-processing, the overall color tone of the frame was mainly adjusted, reinforcing the primary blue-and-white tones, and the exposure was slightly brightened to create that translucent summer atmosphere. This set of photos can be considered an everyday-oriented record of Arona's gym uniform styling, and every angle attempt and light-and-shadow capture was meant to present imagery as close to the character as possible.
