[Takanashi Hoshino cosplay] Blue Archive: Sunshine and a refreshing summer by the pool

Choosing a sunny day to shoot this summer outfit for Takanashi Hoshino from Blue Archive, I sorted through and selected the remaining photos from our previous session. The scene was set beside an outdoor pool featuring white architecture and lush greenery, where the overall environment harmonized exceptionally well with the character's swimsuit look. Natural light filtered down through a massive white patio umbrella overhead, casting soft lighting without overly harsh shadows.

Regarding wardrobe, the light blue jacket was worn off-the-shoulder, revealing a pure white ruffle crop top underneath, paired with matching white shorts below. The advantage of this outfit lies in maintaining a crisp, visually cool sense under summer sunlight while effortlessly highlighting waistlines. The pink twin-tail hairstyle was refined with careful detail work, adjusting sideburns to fit closely along facial contours. Adding a glowing thematic halo prop floating overhead alongside blue-framed sunglasses as accents captured the lazy yet cute aura of the original design quite effectively.

For props, I specially prepared a blue inflatable whale plush and a blue-and-white striped swim ring. During framing, the composition was structured through various angles—holding, hugging, leaning against, or resting props along the pool edge. For instance, the physical volume of the whale plush was used to balance subject proportions across the frame, or its silly expression interacted with the character's eye line. In terms of posing, I experimented with sitting on the pool edge with legs dangling, standing on one foot, and leaning beside the circular swim ring. These poses conveyed a relaxing vacation feel while showcasing the flexibility of the outfit through movement.

For lighting, I selected natural side-backlighting around nine in the morning as the primary light source. Side-backlighting excels at highlighting rim edges along the subject's silhouette while avoiding harsh facial shadows caused by direct noon sunlight. Diffuse reflections from blue mosaic pool tiles and white surrounding walls acted as excellent ambient fill light, boosting overall brightness and transparency so the color textures of the white top and light blue jacket were rendered crisply.

Regarding the background, the foreground featured the curved white stone edge of the pool and wooden decking; the midground highlighted the clear, turquoise water of the swimming pool; and the background incorporated green bamboo and distinct thatched-roof architecture. The dark tones of green foliage contrasted against the bright white walls in a balance of complexity and simplicity, providing ample visual depth. When shooting standing poses, special care was taken to prevent the subject from dissolving into background highlights; by slightly adjusting camera angles, the subject's body was staggered against the white wall background to enhance three-dimensional depth.

During post-processing, focus centered mainly on unifying skin tones and fine-tuning color temperature. Because white clothing easily blows out under harsh light, highlight details were reduced in post to preserve fabric texture. For the halo effect overhead, an extra glow layer was composited to seamlessly fit the current lighting environment. Reflections of sky blue and ambient tones on the water surface were subtly retained, ensuring overall colors looked clean and unified—perfectly capturing the desired vibe for a Summer water play Poolside photoshoot. Overall, this was a smooth Cosplay photography water shoot, where prop coordination and light management met all expectations.
