[Pearl cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Chips Wagered Across a Thousand Stars

Cosplaying Honkai: Star Rail's Pearl for this shoot was filled with challenges from the moment I unboxed the outfit. The costume features far more intricate layers than I anticipated: the upper half is an off-the-shoulder design with generous white pleating, requiring meticulous wearing to ensure the wide sleeves drape gracefully. The black geometric straps and butterfly ornaments across the chest are individually fastened, shifting out of place with even slight movements. The interlocking white and blue fabrics of the hemline also demanded careful arrangement to prevent looking bulky.

The most painstaking part was definitely the white form-fitting leg sleeves featuring black linework and mechanical paneling. To make the lines appear pin-straight, I had to adjust their placement millimeter by millimeter, ensuring a seamless fit with the shell-shaped armor resting just above the knees. Stepping into pale beige high heels with pointed insteps visually elongated the entire leg line. To prevent the mechanical leg sleeves from sliding down during shooting, I added numerous hidden fasteners inside.

For hair and makeup, to recreate the pale golden gradient locks, I spent a long time trimming and styling the wig in advance. The crown at the top and the sapphire positioned dead center on the forehead required strictly symmetrical placement. The makeup utilized soft pink eyeshadow paired with purple contact lenses; the dewy finish on the blush and lips appeared luminous under intense lighting, perfectly harmonizing with the eye makeup to channel an ethereal, cool-toned elegance.

The set dressing was equally elaborate, featuring an enormous glowing moon in the background and a scenic backdrop adorned with swimming fish on the right. The studio lighting leaned heavily on cool tones, which cast strong reflections across the white garments; to prevent the face from overexposing, the light positions were adjusted repeatedly. To complement the floating water bubbles and foreground white sheer drapery, we prepared a small bubble machine onsite. Capturing those frames required steady breath control while holding the calligraphic brush steadily aloft. The translucent parasol in the second photo was a spontaneous addition that heightened the scene's spatial depth and fantasy mood.

Throughout the shoot, holding the brush suspended in mid-air meant keeping shoulders relaxed while the wrist projected disciplined strength and the back stayed upright. To convey Pearl's composed poise when tossing chips across a thousand stars, the focal point of my gaze was rehearsed multiple times. Although the process was exhausting, seeing the final photos seamlessly harmonize costume details, mechanical aesthetics, and traditional Chinese softness made every ounce of effort worthwhile.
