Getting mistaken for the Witch of the North Wind on the CP32 convention floor was certainly unexpected, but it also reflects how the outfit coordination and overall atmosphere sparked fascinating impressions. Since everyone has been asking for Convention photos, I'm taking this opportunity to share these snapshots from the event, while reflecting on the styling and on-site experiences.
This time I cosplayed Valarqvin from Arknights, aiming for a calm, cool, and focused tone throughout the styling. For the hair, I chose a long, straight black wig; while managing this length in crowded convention spaces risks snagging, smoothing it close to the scalp beautifully framed the character's facial silhouette. The pointed elf ears on top served as the essence of this look; I took extra care adjusting their angles during wear so they appeared natural and three-dimensional without a stiff, artificial feel. The golden diamond-patterned forehead jewelry set with a blue-green gem was the finishing touch, capturing great luster under convention lights and faithfully recreating her official design traits.
The eye makeup emphasized pupil clarity, paired with light blue lenses to convey a translucent yet detached gaze on camera. Contouring along the cheekbones and nose bridge was kept soft rather than overly harsh, as Valarqvin's aura leans toward intellectual grace rather than aggressive sharpness. A gentle, lively lip shade brought a fresh touch to the overall complexion.
For the wardrobe, a white collared shirt served as the base, accented at the neckline by a deep blue ribbon that added a pop of color and broke the plainness of white. Draped over it was a black jacket with a white fur collar, featuring the 'KEEPER' lettering on the sleeve—a visual detail clearly captured in the candid shots. Wearing textured black gloves also elevated character accuracy during hand gestures and prop handling. Overall, the ensemble preserved ACG character traits while blending everyday elements, allowing effortless movement and natural posing across the convention floor.
The little episode of being mistaken for the Witch of the North Wind was quite amusing. Perhaps the fur collar, dark hair tone, and black-white-blue palette generated a similar illusion under specific lighting angles. Even so, being misidentified proves the look carried strong recognition and fantasy appeal to passersby. As an ACG Cosplayer, inspiring varied associations through one's styling is a delightful experience.
CP32 was bustling with massive crowds and mixed lighting, making clean compositions tricky to capture. This photo was taken near a glass entrance, where the blend of natural light and indoor illumination kept tones soft and balanced without noticeable color casts. This set primarily records the relaxed state at the event—looking naturally into the lens without forced posturing.
For me, cosplay is all about experiencing and recreating character nuances. Packing full gear, navigating through convention crowds, being photographed by peers, and receiving Convention photos from photographers brings immense fulfillment and joy. Despite the exhaustion from dawn prep to late-night makeup removal, sharing beloved characters on the show floor offers an irreplaceable atmosphere.
While the excitement is still fresh, I'm posting this snapshot to see if any photographer friends nearby caught shots from other angles. Candid snapshots at conventions are always full of surprises; Valarqvin through different focal lengths and perspectives must offer distinct nuances.
