[Awa Subaru cosplay] 486 Doesn't Need a Taxi Today: Rehearsal Moments Holding Drumsticks

Today's shoot features the Ver.01 portrait close-up edition of Awa Subaru cosplay. The title "486 doesn't need a taxi today" is a little inside joke from the shoot. This session focuses on a relaxed and casual 2D daily life vibe without complex sets, putting all the focus on the character herself and the pair of drumsticks in hand.

Let's talk about the styling first. The signature black long hair with straight bangs, paired with the prominent ahoge on top that simply must stay upright, is truly the finest touch in recreating the character. For clothing, I chose a black off-the-shoulder top, which highlights the character's cool yet casual aura while keeping the color from clashing against the horizontal lines of the blinds aesthetic. For makeup, I tried purple lenses paired with slightly pink eyeshadow and blush, hoping to maintain an anime feel while making the skin look translucent and natural—giving off that slightly warmed-up look of a drummer after routine practice.

The props are the core soul of this set: two light-colored wooden drumsticks with red accents, which instantly bring out a band atmosphere when held. Rather than flashy playing, I prefer this quiet state of holding the drumsticks and gazing into the lens, like a moment of zoning out during a break in rehearsal, or getting ready to strike a beat at any second. The blinds aesthetic in the background and the warm lighting wrap the whole photoshoot in a cozy, intimate filter, full of everyday warmth.

This set is called the "portrait close-up edition" because we wanted to focus more on facial expressions—that mixture of adorable dorkiness and stubbornness. Instead of extravagant full-body scenes, we used half-body and close-up shots through Cosplay photography to delicately capture the atmospheric feeling unique to the character's daily routine. Since it's Ver.01, the overall shoot serves as a makeup test and atmospheric experiment, striving for an unpretentious vibe.

During the shoot, since "Phx: Me" meant I was doing the photo taking myself, the composition and light management had to be adjusted on the fly. For close-ups, I had to be careful that the horizontal lines of the blinds didn't cut across the eyes or the visual center of the facial contour, switching between profile and front angles to capture expressions from different perspectives. Although this half-body portrait framing looks simple, Cosplay photography here actually demands high precision in facial expressions, eye contact, and hair arrangement—after all, the entire visual focus is on that single face and two drumsticks, so any small flaw in makeup or styling would be magnified. Luckily, the base makeup was solid, making the shooting process quite smooth.

In fact, for Awa Subaru from GIRLS BAND CRY, beyond the band elements, her independent yet slightly playful personality comes through nicely in the eyes. Since she doesn't need a taxi today, maybe she'll just tap out her own rhythm with her drumsticks.
