The theme of this shoot was locked onto the "Against the Tide" project of Wuthering Waves, bringing the twin duo of Cartethyia and Fleurdelis into reality. The caption is set to "The future... let's explore it together!" which perfectly conveys the sense of bond we wanted to express against this dark, starry background.
The two outfits have a very clear color coordination. Little Ka's (Fleurdelis) blue satin long dress is stunning; when the hem is spread out, the fabric's luster and the stacked fold shadows require careful angle adjustments. During the shoot, we spent quite some time arranging the flow of the dress to present its deep yet gorgeous texture under low light. Big Ka's (Cartethyia) silver-white and grayish-blue spliced short skirt focuses more on lightness. Paired with white strappy high-heeled sandals, it visually elongates the character's proportions nicely, highlighting that unique cool and elegant temperament. The prop details of the elf ears and unicorn horn also served as the finishing touch to the overall look.
For this shoot, photographer WiFi chose a very interesting set, mainly utilizing a dark-toned background. Behind us, there was a grid-like barrier combined with scattered white light spots, resembling the spotlight refraction of a stage or a reflecting galaxy. This high-contrast lighting environment with extensive dark negative space perfectly fits the atmosphere of two elf characters exploring an alternate world. During composition, we deliberately chose a combination of lying flat and leaning, rather than conventional standing poses. This not only fully displayed the characters' slender proportions but also allowed the large area of the blue skirt to form a visual focal point in the frame, avoiding the stiffness of standing straight. The horizontal rotation processing of the two images subtly increased the visual depth.
The shooting process actually tested our physical stamina and coordination. The convention venue had messy lighting and heavy foot traffic. To achieve this clean visual feel for our convention photos, we deliberately avoided the harsh lights of the main exhibition area and found this relatively quiet corner for our creative work. We also put a lot of thought into costumes, makeup, and props, especially securing the wigs and pointed ear props. Because our movements were quite large, we had to repeatedly touch up makeup and adjust. Fortunately, "Big Ka" and "Little Ka" had great chemistry; we quickly found poses suitable for a duo shot on site, ensuring the pace of discussing and posing didn't drag on. As a commemoration of the 2nd Anniversary Tide-Echoes Celebration, this cosplay work carries a lot of our hard work.
It was a great honor to take the opportunity of the Yirelang International Animation and Game Expo to complete this set of duo convention photos during the convention's free-roam session. We tried our best to restore the characters' charm, especially the reflective texture of the skirts from different angles and the interactive expressions between the two characters. During the fan-creation process, I increasingly felt the conviction of walking side-by-side and fighting the unknown together inherent in the characters' settings. The photographer's lighting control also played a crucial role in presenting the final texture. Our love for cosplay photography and respect for the world of Wuthering Waves have kept us true to our original intentions, pouring ourselves into every creation and practice.
