For this Odette cosplay shoot, the preliminary preparation work was relatively thorough. From the moment I got the costume, I've been adjusting the details. This Genshin Impact costume has a very strong sense of layering. The blue-and-white gradient on the bodice, combined with the golden streamline ornaments on the chest and waist, has a very prominent texture under the lighting. To ensure the pleated effect of the skirt hem, every time I changed poses, I had to reorganize it again, especially that belt with heart-shaped decorations—even a slight deviation in position would affect the overall visual.
Wigs and makeup are also key points. The light blue short hair needs to be styled with curves, and that antenna-like hair strand on top of the head requires a lot of hairspray to set. The purple gemstone and white wings on the tiara will reflect light during close-up shots, so the lighting needs to be as soft as possible. In terms of makeup, noticeable red-pink blending was used at the outer corners of the eyes to add a bit of Anime cosplay atmosphere, and the lipstick chose a watery, glossy texture.
The first set was shot in a dark studio. The ground was paved with mirror paper, and red rose petals were scattered around. A black background combined with hard light can well outline the character's silhouette, and the reflection on the mirror floor also makes the frame look richer. The kneeling V-hand pose looks simple, but it actually tests waist and abdominal strength a lot, requiring the upper body to lean back slightly while keeping the skirt spread out without collapsing; doing this for a few shots is indeed very sore. Another standing skirt-lifting action focuses on how to naturally pinch the skirt edge with hands, and the center of gravity distribution when standing with crossed legs; relaxing even a bit will look stiff.
The second set switched to a white studio. The scene was arranged with semi-transparent white drapes, green plants, and white iron-art chairs, making the whole atmosphere very light. Under soft lighting conditions, the contrast between the light blue and pure white of the costume is cleaner. That action of raising one hand and stretching out the other is actually trying to capture a certain dance-like moment of the character. Because the costume's shoulder part features an open-back design, one must pay attention to the form of the shoulder blades when lifting the arms to avoid awkward-looking actions.
Because of a deep love for the character, the pressure when cosplaying this set was also very heavy, always worrying that my expressiveness wasn't enough, and doing a lot of homework beforehand to ponder the character's demeanor. But cosplay itself is a way to express love in one's own way. Although out-of-character moments are inevitably hard to avoid, every action and every adjustment is intended to make the costume and character traits more distinct. I hope this set of photos can convey this feeling.
