[Niko cosplay] Catching a tea-sipping Niko at AX Convention

This Niko styling at Anime Expo revolved entirely around a leisurely tea-break concept, from makeup test to the actual shoot. The white, blue, and gold colorway features multiple layers, with cutouts at the waist and back securely held by fashion tape and transparent shoulder straps. The golden five-pointed stars and diamond embroidery along the garment were applied by hand; to ensure reflections looked natural on camera, fabric with a subtle satin sheen was chosen. The elf ears were custom-molded, with edges blended seamlessly onto the skin using scar wax. Highly saturated blue contact lenses were paired with a wide gradient of red eyeshadow at the outer corners of the eyes to bring out the character's spirited charm. Wire was built into the bow hairpiece atop the head so it wouldn't collapse no matter how much I walked around. The red forehead mark was hand-painted with acrylic and sealed with setting spray, holding up remarkably well even in AX's crowded, humid environment.

This photo set was taken in an indoor studio setup, where tea sets were deliberately arranged in the foreground. Holding the teacup and saucer required steady hands, while my gaze needed to convey a calm, composed, yet subtly aloof mood—quite a challenge for someone who usually favors dramatic, wide poses. To capture a natural tea-drinking gesture, the photographer shot dozens of continuous frames before selecting this shot where my eyes drift off-camera. I was recognized by many fellow fans on the AX convention floor, and everyone was exceptionally welcoming. Niko's official design is full of charm, and being able to showcase a Genshin Impact character on this international stage felt like a true honor. The atmospheric vibe of Song of the Empty Moon suits Niko wonderfully, and on-site I met many friends cosplaying from the same universe, exchanging tips on garment tailoring and wig styling. For cosplay, I always believe details define accuracy—not just the garments, but also the subtle expressions and physical gestures. Before every shoot, I study the character sheets repeatedly, noting easily missed small accessories and facial habits. To embody Niko's tea-drinking elegance, I practiced holding the cup in the mirror at home for a long time to keep my fingers relaxed, keeping my shoulders dropped while aligning my posture with the chair. Now that the shoot is wrapped and the costume is hung back in the closet, I look forward to taking Niko to even more picturesque scenery next time.
