I've finally sorted through my photos from the China International Cartoon & Animation Festival in Hangzhou! The design of this Barbara swimsuit is truly thoughtful; the blue-and-white color palette radiates an instant, refreshing summer vibe. Combining the white cropped outerwear with the blue one-piece base brings out both the modest sweetness of a sailor suit and the glamour of an idol stage costume. The large golden bow across the chest and the layered lace ruffles along the hem photograph exceptionally well under natural sunlight. To complement the outfit, I crafted a custom blue-and-white hair bow accessory and spent considerable time styling the silver-gray twin-tails wig, using a curling wand to shape natural soft waves so it would perfectly capture Barbara's playful, bubbly charm.
Beyond the outfit itself, the biggest eye-catcher was definitely that cute little yellow duck bag! It's made of soft plush material, and wearing it crossbody not only held my makeup touch-up essentials but also made the entire look so much more spirited. The floral high-heeled sandals were another major highlight—white daisy motifs and blue-and-yellow straps tied the overall palette together seamlessly. To comfortably walk around the venue, I attached non-slip pads beneath the soles, which proved to be a lifesaver. I also paired the look with sheer nude Stockings, which smoothed and flattered my leg lines while offering slight protection against wind and sun outdoors.
For the shoot, we chose an outdoor terrace outside the convention center with modern glass curtain-wall facades and sleek metal railings in the background. To honor the concept of an adorable, radiant idol, I did my utmost to project bubbly, energetic vibes before the lens. Whether sitting and shooting playful glances at the camera, standing with one hand on my hip, or making double peace signs, every pose aimed to convey that vibrant idol spirit. Sitting on the low parapet with legs crossed not only elongated my leg lines but also gave me an approachable, relaxed posture, and the photographer was fantastic at catching those spontaneous, natural moments.
Attending a convention is undeniably hard work physically, especially on an open-air terrace where the sun and heat are very real despite the gorgeous lighting. Between takes, I made sure to stay hydrated and carried a portable mini fan to keep cool and prevent my makeup from melting. As for expression control, a smile is an idol's very soul; I regularly practice in front of the mirror to make my smile look natural and keep that spark in my eyes. I also met many wonderful and professional photographers at the event who kindly guided me toward the best lighting angles and patiently waited for me to adjust my skirt and wig before snapping. To ensure the fabric stayed crisp, I even brought a compact travel garment steamer to smooth out any creases on the skirt hem before shooting.
This convention trip not only yielded photos I'm genuinely thrilled with, but also let me connect and exchange cosplay insights with fellow enthusiasts. Every step of pouring heart into the costume, crafting props, and bringing the character to life before the lens is an immensely fulfilling journey.
