Shooting this set of Azur Lane Bai Feng cosplay took place on a late autumn afternoon. Together with photographer Bao Li, we settled in advance on an indoor Chinese-style cosplay set rich with vibrant autumn colors—such as spreading red maple branches in the background, dark carved wooden partitions, and a plush white fur rug. Once the overall thematic elements were set, I began preparing the styling for this shoot.
The core of the Bai Feng character lies in blending an ethereal, otherworldly coolness with the graceful elegance of a traditional noble lady. Therefore, when styling the wig, I had to ensure that the white rabbit hair ornaments and ribbon on the top blended seamlessly into the long white hair. I chose a natural cool-toned silver-white wig with slightly curled bangs to convey a visual effect on camera that is both gentle yet poised with a subtle distance. For makeup, I deliberately toned down the overall color palette, using light eyebrows and sheer eyeshadow to keep the face clean, while focusing on precise eyeliner and lip color, choosing a classic true red to break the visual monotony of the dominant white and blue.
The costume details were also meticulously crafted. This modified off-the-shoulder Chinese-style outfit features a luminous white fabric as its main body, with the deep blue woven patterns at the neckline and shoulders serving as the visual focal point. The pendant attached beneath the collar line perfectly flatters the collarbone. The hem of the short robe is detailed with delicate jacquard textures; though visually appearing as a two-piece ensemble, it maintains a graceful drape when walking or seated. For accessories, I prepared a white feather round fan and a white scroll to anchor my hand poses.
During the shoot, photographer Bao Li put tremendous effort into the lighting setup. The overall warm light cast across the faux fur and white costume generated the soft texture of gentle afternoon sunlight. For the poses shown here, I chose to sit cross-legged beside the low table or sit upright on the carpet. Under this lighting, the White tights created a soft, glowing highlight, which not only visually elongated my legs, but also unified the pure white palette. To harmonize with this gentle autumn atmosphere, I adjusted my expression—relaxing my face as much as possible with just a subtle curve at the corners of my lips, rather than looking overly stern or overtly playful.
In terms of props, the red cherries and purple grapes placed on the low tea table served as delightful visual accents, breaking up the expanse of white and deep blue while adding a touch of lifelike warmth. In the photo holding the white feather fan, positioning the fan across my chest or half-covering my face evoked a captivating sense of subtle, unspoken narrative.
This shoot was a wonderful experience for me because the costume and makeup were relatively light and unrestrictive. Gradually refining my poses within the set, catching the light angles, and syncing with the photographer's rhythm made the entire process flow smoothly. A significant part of Bai Feng's charm stems from the "negative space" in her character design, which, in Ancient style photography, truly tests composition and color balance. Fortunately, the rich dark wooden textures and red maple foliage of the set anchored the subject beautifully, while the white plush carpet provided a clean base that prevented the frame from looking cluttered.
To maintain harmony with the autumnal palette across the photo set, when selecting photos, I favored shots that simultaneously showcased the costume's tailoring, subtle facial expressions, and overall integration with the environment. This was not merely a simple Chinese-style cosplay portrayal, but an exploration of Ancient style photography aesthetics and specialized lighting ambiance. Through the detailed coordination of attire and props and their seamless fit with the environment, the character's refined grace and the warmth of autumn created a compelling visual tension. I am truly delighted to have completed this shoot in such a relaxed, natural state.
