The wardrobe consists primarily of patent leather and high-gloss fabrics. While this material produces gorgeous reflections under studio lights, it is unforgiving on the body—any slight flaw gets magnified. For this shoot, I strictly monitored my diet days in advance and barely drank any water right before the camera rolled. The inner black corset features metal buckles and required someone else's help to cinch tightly. Draped over my shoulders, the dark navy military-style overcoat partly shields the sides, giving the whole silhouette a sharper, cleaner look.
The shoot took place inside an indoor studio in Shenyang. With a pure white background, we opted for high-key lighting to accentuate the silhouettes of both myself and the motorcycle. The bike was remarkably heavy; simply pushing and repositioning it took immense effort. Reclining across the gas tank demanded firm core engagement—remaining stretched out without stiffening up. The residual warmth of the engine, mingled with the scents of metal and patent leather, effortlessly pulled me into that hardcore atmosphere.
Styling the wig took nearly an hour; the cyan-blue strands needed enough volume without looking synthetic against the stark white backdrop. The red badge ornament on the peaked cap was custom-crafted with sharp edges, making it pop boldly against the white background. Embodying a biker girl goes beyond merely wearing an outfit—you have to learn how to harmonize with this cold machine. Leaning against the tank with a hand lightly resting on the handlebar, the gaze shouldn't try too hard; it needs an air of relaxed detachment. Neptune's character design naturally carries confidence and subtle tsundere charm, which I strove to convey through body language.
We utilized lower camera angles for the composition to elongate the overall lines. In post-processing, the team preserved natural skin texture and the genuine sheen of the patent leather without excessive retouching. Because patent leather isn't breathable, it becomes stuffy when worn for long periods, requiring quick breathers in the lounge between action sets. The motorcycle's surface was quite sleek, so finding stable anchor points while reclining was essential to keep from slipping off. The photographer continually adjusted angles to capture the best light reflections. We tested reclining postures numerous times before settling on this composition that was both comfortable and flattering. The blue tone of the wig was prone to blowing out under intense light, prompting repeated testing of strobe power and distances.
For cosplay, every character portrayal represents a fresh journey. From receiving initial concept art to sourcing tailors and wig stylists, and finally collaborating on set with photographers and retouchers, every step poses unique challenges.
