When I received the costume for The Shorekeeper this time, I immediately noticed the incredible amount of detailing. The garments are crafted primarily from translucent mesh and satin, adorned with extensive silver metallic ornaments. Putting it on required careful attention to aligning the sheer chest panel with the metallic frames, or else it easily risked appearing bulky. The butterfly headpiece is quite large and needed its center of gravity firmly anchored. The wig features a gradient blue tone, layered and trimmed meticulously.
For makeup, I applied generous sweeps of blue-violet eyeshadow accented with glitter. To maintain the character's cool detachment, the base makeup was kept immaculate, complemented by slightly heavier contouring. The cosmetic contacts were chosen in a purplish-blue shade. The white lines across the backs of my hands and legs were drawn using body paint, requiring me to hold rigid poses while waiting for them to dry.
For props, I crafted several blue butterflies, one of which housed luminous LED components. During shooting, I continually adjusted my hand angles, striving to capture the weightless grace of a butterfly alighting on fingertips or hovering near the face. The delicate white cords wound around my arms tended to unravel easily, extending the shooting time considerably.
Regarding the edit, many believe cosplay photos must rely on heavy airbrushing and porcelain skin smoothing to look like mannequins. I opted for natural post-processing this time, retaining authentic skin texture and natural shadows while merely calibrating color balance and lighting contrast. I wanted the photos to look like a living, breathing scene rather than an over-rendered illustration. Un-airbrushed images might not chase viral engagement as easily, but I feel this better showcases the fabric textures and makeup realism—especially the display of the White stockings and leg contours, edited under natural lighting principles to honor true-to-life textures.
The ambient indoor lighting was actually quite chaotic on shoot day, so in post-production, I unified the background into a cool palette to make the blue hues pop. Hand gestures were nuanced and subtle, coordinated around the placement of the butterflies. I truly love the final outcome: it holds that serene, ethereal stillness. This was a wonderfully pure cosplay experience focused on character fidelity and visual texture. Participating firsthand in every phase—from makeup tests to prop crafting—was deeply rewarding in itself. Though balancing the light ratio between the glowing butterfly and the ambient space took extra effort, the final shots realized my creative vision for this set perfectly.
