The focus of this Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Roxy cosplay photoshoot was to restore the character's classic outfit and create a natural and serene atmosphere. Right from preparing the props, I was thinking about how to stay close to the original design. The light blue wig was styled into twin braids with beast-ear-like shapes fixed on top; styling this required quite some effort, needing hairspray for hold to maintain the fluffy volume. For the costume, a white sailor Uniform with a dark collar was chosen, and the large bow on the chest needed to be adjusted to a proper position to avoid looking bulky. The dark belt with metal buckles at the waist is a crucial detail that accentuates the waistline. The lower half was paired with white tights and white boots with gold toes; this outfit is actually quite easy to get dirty outdoors, so I had to be extra cautious when finding spots to step or sit.
The shoot took place in a grove of trees by the water, where the green reflections on the water surface were gorgeous. Light filtered evenly through the leaves, creating a very soft light source ideal for portrait photography. When framing angles, the photographer used a shallow depth of field to blur the background, blending the sparkling water surface with the forest behind to make the subject stand out. The most difficult part during the shoot was composing the crouching pose: crouching beside the rock while holding the prop cardboard, maintaining balance without letting poor leg circulation cause unnatural facial expressions, which truly required constant repositioning. The vintage brown bag at the waist and the cardboard beside me were important props to recreate the character's actions, and placing them took some careful thought.
White stockings and boots have always been focal points of interest. White stockings can easily get snagged on tree branches when walking in the woods, so I moved very carefully. This set of photos created a vivid contrast between the texture of the white tights and the green background by the water, showcasing the costume coordination while fitting the character's image in the audience's mind. Post-processing preserved the original light and shadows without over-retouching, making the overall color tone more natural.
For the photographer, finding such a natural backdrop saves a lot of effort compared to artificial staging; the water reflections and tree colors made the scene very translucent. The entire shoot went smoothly, with the photographer's precise control of light and coordination with my pose guidance, yielding this satisfying set of finished photos. This shoot gave me a deeper understanding of Roxy's costume structure and characteristics, while allowing me to experience the unique joy of Outdoor photography by the water.
