The outdoor shoot for Shiroko's gymnastics uniform cosplay has wrapped up successfully, and the final photos achieved exactly what I had originally envisioned.
The location chosen this time was a school gymnasium equipment room, where the sunlight streamed through high windows onto the wooden floor and sports equipment, creating a highly realistic and lively sports atmosphere. To accurately restore the character, a lot of thought went into the costume and accessories. The silver-grey long hair with bangs, combined with the iconic blue halo on top of the head and fluffy animal ears, brought out the overall basic silhouette. The ears were fixed with thickened anti-slip pads, so there was no need to worry about them shifting during the shoot, even when walking around or making large movements. The gymnastics uniform chose a loose white style with blue trim, and the refreshing color scheme looked exceptionally bright under the sun.
During the shoot, to emphasize the character's spirit, the makeup highlighted a clear foundation paired with translucent red contact lenses, making the gaze look more agile. In post-processing color grading, we intentionally preserved that warm sunlight texture of the equipment room, keeping the image contrast moderate so it wouldn't look too sharp. The volleyballs, soccer balls in the equipment room, and the numbered jerseys in the background all became natural, excellent props, making the narrative feel of the entire photoset much richer.
This time, I experimented with several different poses and perspectives. For instance, the first photo adopted a top-down angle, where I gripped the wooden bar of the sports equipment and looked up, bringing out a bit of playfulness and athletic tension. The subsequent shots of sitting on the wooden floor and leaning against the ball cart focused more on showcasing the character's cute and casual side. Especially that pair of fluffy paw gloves—holding them in hand or raising them to make movements added a soft and cute atmosphere to the frame. During the shooting process, moving back and forth in the equipment room while donning the fluffy ears and halo was a bit exhausting and stuffy, but being able to capture those natural light, shadow, and movement details in a real scene made it entirely worth it.
I have always felt that for characters with sports elements, shooting in a real venue feels much better than in a studio. The depth and lighting changes of a real location give the photos more room to breathe. This blue-and-white outfit coordination also perfectly matched the character's refreshing traits, carrying both the youthfulness of the campus and the energy of a sports girl. In those moments of resting my chin in my hands while looking at the camera or resting my foot on a volleyball, it felt as if I truly merged into that gymnasium atmosphere filled with sweat and vitality. I hope everyone can feel the purity and cuteness belonging to this character from this photoset, and I hope these insights into this sports style photography shoot can provide a small reference for friends who enjoy shooting similar styles as an Anime girl. This completes an incredibly fun Shiroko cosplay experience.
