Shooting this set of Shimoe Koharu works was actually to capture that unique sense of atmosphere that is both serious and a bit clumsy. I have always felt that the character's design is very clever: pink short hair, bright red irises, plus that eye-catching pink halo on top of her head—no matter how you look at it, she should be that elegant and demure type. But when she wields that large "No Thoroughfare" circular sign, or solemnly holds her smaller chibi plushie, you can't help but feel a clumsy cuteness at her core.
The costume preparation for this shoot was very thorough. The pure white off-the-shoulder dress looked exceptionally clean under the lens; the fabric's luster was just right, beautifully supporting the ruffled folds of the skirt hem without looking cheap under reflections. The vertical black strap at the neckline connects directly to the choker, sharp in black and white, focusing the visual center of gravity of the entire styling on the upper body. The ruffled sleeves attached to the arms paired with white long gloves—this attention to detail is something I value highly, greatly improving the character's refinement.
However, the part that required the most thought was actually the hair ornaments and accessories. The black feathers on both sides along with the red accents near the ears, plus that small pair of black feather wings on the back—I spent a long time adjusting them while putting them on to ensure they felt lightweight while naturally swaying upon turning around. The halo on top of her head was also specifically selected with this cutout material, reducing the overall visual weight while preserving the character's core features.
In terms of makeup, to align with the original setting's agility, I used a very translucent base makeup paired with a light peach-pink eyeshadow to make her gaze appear softer. The red contact lenses are a crowning touch, while a tiny teardrop-shaped decoration beneath the eye adds a dash of playfulness. The overall makeup pursues cleanliness and clarity, wanting to prevent heavy colors from masking the costume's native weightlessness.
To showcase the character's multifaceted nature, several different props were prepared for this shoot. The movement of lifting the skirt hem while standing on one foot at the beginning heavily tested my balance, requiring great shutter timing coordination with the photographer to catch the exact moment the skirt hem naturally unfolded, revealing the lines of the arms and legs, displaying both a girl's soft beauty and a touch of agility. Meanwhile, the set holding the "No Thoroughfare" sign intentionally amplified her "law enforcement" attribute, with a slightly exaggerated pose paired with a subtly pouting mouth corner to deliver that adult-like gap moe.
The pink strap wrapped around the thigh in the photos is actually a minor highlight of the overall styling. It breaks the monotony of pure white, adding a splash of vibrant color visually while making the leg lines appear more slender. When shooting this set, the lighting was applied exceptionally softly, and the solid white background gathered all attention onto the figure and costume without any extra messy interference. I feel this minimalist presentation method is instead the best way to highlight the accuracy and quality of the cosplay photography.
Speaking of this character, during the preparation stage, I actually reviewed many setting details. Her personality positioning—where she attempts to maintain order but always ends up making a fool of herself due to minor mishaps—made me put extra work into expression management. Instead of choosing a cold poker face, I revealed more soft smiles, or a slightly puzzled yet serious expression. I believe handling the photos this way allows everyone to feel a more vivid and three-dimensional side of the character, rather than just stopping at a costume-level replication.
Regarding the dress worn this time, another small detail is the vertical line on the chest. This design is highly ingenious; although it's an off-the-shoulder style, that black line grants a sense of visual extension, which, paired with the black choker, brings out the layered feel of the overall black-and-white color scheme. The long white gloves not only frame the arm lines but also add a touch of elegance and formality to the entire look, forming a wonderful visual echo with the feather wings on the back.
Honestly, people usually see this character as inherently clumsy, but if you look deep into her setting, you can discover this conflicting beauty. Cute yet stubborn, pure yet mixed with earnestness. For this shoot, I communicated many details with the photographer, from the costume stitching to the holding angle of the props, hoping to recreate her essence to the maximum extent. After the final photos came out, I was pleasantly surprised myself; that unique, slightly stubborn aura belonging to the character was largely captured. I hope these carefully prepared details can bring everyone some different feelings. Regarding some minor details of this outfit, like exactly how high the pink thigh strap should be wrapped to make the legs look long, we repeatedly experimented several times back then. The final product's ability to present this lightweight and lively state is inseparable from the entire team's seamless cooperation in composition and candid captures for this creative roleplay.
