Great care was taken from styling to set design, hoping everyone can feel the texture of this Cosplay outfit and the character's uniquely relaxed, playful aura.
Let's dive into the costume details first. The white halter-neck top features fine red cord piping along the edges, keeping the neckline crisp and clean. The purple-and-yellow floral ornament on the chest serves as the absolute visual focal point; the ring base and petal textures look remarkably three-dimensional, staying faithful to the Genshin Impact design whether viewed from afar or up close. The sleeves utilize a detached, wide kimono sleeve design—predominantly white, with red-brown patterned accents along the trims, adorned with purple beaded strings and white tassels. This construction gives the oversized sleeves an elegant drape, creating a flowing flutter when caught in a gentle breeze. The lower half features a layered red-and-black pleated skirt, paired with traditional platform geta clogs with crisscrossed red-and-white straps, setting a rhythmic cadence with each step.
Next, let's talk about the hair and makeup. The short pink wig was thinned and textured to craft a fluffy, playful silhouette. The true centerpiece is the pair of large, fluffy pink fox ears; under studio lights, the soft fur texture is rendered crisply, and a slight tilt immediately captures an aloof, tsundere demeanor. I chose light-grey contact lenses paired with sleek eyeliner, giving the gaze a crystal-clear transparency while retaining that subtly cunning edge of a Fox girl. The golden crown atop the head and the dangling purple-blue disc earrings with gold tassels elevate the elegance of the lighter-toned makeup, rounding out the character styling.
The scene setting during the shoot was also delightful. We staged the studio as a traditional wooden Japanese room: black wooden lattice screens, textured shoji paper sliding doors, dark wooden flooring, and a low wooden table with a small green sake flask in the corner. Combined, these props instantly evoked an authentic traditional atmosphere for Japanese-style photography.
We explored distinct angles in posing and composition. For the first photo, I chose a relaxed seated pose, sitting cross-legged sideways on the wooden floor and stretching my legs naturally toward the foreground. This angle not only flatters the overall silhouette of the costume but also elongates body lines. An unfolded red oil-paper umbrella with white dots behind me serves as a fan-shaped visual anchor. Light beamed from the front-side, forming a soft yet vibrant tricolor contrast among the red umbrella, pink hair, and white garment. Revealing the legs and geta clogs captured the character's leisurely and nonchalant persona.
The second photo is a clean, full-body standing portrait against a minimalist light backdrop. This perspective focuses on showcasing the costume's integrity and layering: the wide sleeves drape naturally, while the chest ornament and waist division are visible at a glance, presenting a more poised and dignified presence.
The third photo emphasizes emotional expression. I placed a traditional Japanese paper lantern emitting warm yellow light in the foreground to create a blurred foreground frame. Through this framing composition, the black wooden lattice in the background and my face are framed within the warm glow, crafting a tranquil, contemplative narrative mood. A subtly downcast gaze brought this storytelling atmosphere to its peak.
Though only a teaser preview before the full photoshoot release, these three images effectively capture the diverse facets of this styling. Staging various poses and refining garment details on set certainly took effort and sweat, especially repeatedly checking and adjusting the floral chest ornament and sleeve tassels. Yet seeing the raw shots on the camera monitor made every bit of effort worthwhile. Exploring these traditional aesthetics in Japanese-style photography was deeply rewarding, and I hope this interpretation of Yae Miko cosplay brings her captivating charm to everyone.
