[Honkai: Star Rail Cosplay] Elf Ear Makeup and Styling Under Red Velvet Curtains & White Thigh-Highs Outfit

Shooting this set of Honkai: Star Rail cosplay photos was actually an attempt planned for a long time. Previously, I had always wanted to do a studio shoot with a classical court feel, and this red velvet throne scene, paired with books in hand and vintage gold frame props, fit the overall demeanor wonderfully. Costume-wise, this white-and-purple gauze dress is very exquisite with rich fabric layering—especially the ruffled skirt hem and the trailing purple tail at the back, which create an awesome presence when walking around. To match the elf style of the outfit, I specifically adjusted the positions of the ear props and hair accessories for elf ear makeup and styling; delicate purple-and-white flowers along with small black twigs echoed the overall cool-toned makeup. For eye makeup, the focus was placed on naturally integrating the blue contact lenses without applying overly heavy eyeliner, making it look softer.

In terms of posing and facial expression control, I referenced the character's innate demeanor of elegance combined with a slight distant feel. During the shoot, the photographer suggested making the crisscross strapped white socks on the side of my leg a visual focus, so both sitting and standing poses intentionally displayed this design, creating a great White thigh-highs outfit look. These boots also matched the dress very well, anchoring the overall opulent vibe. The prop book and mirror frame were also extremely useful—especially those shots holding the mirror frame, where using the frame as a foreground occlusion added depth of field, making it feel even more narrative-driven than expected.

The studio is an indoor space located in Wangfujing. The red brushed velvet curtains grounded the frame effectively, and the photographer lit the scene beautifully, capturing both the white gauze's texture and my skin tone with a clear, clean finish. The entire photo set avoided over-processing, retaining plenty of skin texture and fabric luster. Although this styling involved many details—from wig styling to securing accessories, which took considerable effort—getting a satisfying presentation in front of the lens made it all worthwhile. During the actual shoot, I happened to chat with the photographer about a few studio lighting tricks; the red and blue light-shadow contrast used this time elevated the picture's sophistication significantly, serving as a great experience buildup. Every time I do cosplay, it is both character recreation and secondary creation—bringing flat 2D character art into vivid real-life portraits; this sense of accomplishment can only be truly understood by trying it yourself. Overall, I am quite satisfied with this photo set. Though lacking grand outdoor scenes, the exquisiteness of the indoor set met expectations. If given another chance in the future, I'd also love to try characters with similarly opulent settings—for me, costume layering and facial detail presentation remain the most captivating joys of photography. In such an extravagant setting, maintaining calm eyes and natural bodily relaxation is actually harder to master than exaggerated poses. From early communication and outfit alterations to the final photos, every single link impacts the end result.

In this set of photos, that gold-bordered mirror frame was a surprise prop for me. It not only served as a shooting prop, but also acted as a natural compositional frame in the final shots, giving my image in the picture more depth. I love blending these little ideas into every photoshoot to endow the photos with more of my own personal style beyond just recreating the character.

As for the color coordination of this photo set, the white-and-purple outfit didn't clash in front of the red curtain; instead, brightness differences made the visual centerpiece stand out even more. Black, white, and gray accented with red and purple radiated a coolly gorgeous yet gentle aura under lighting assistance. The wig styling this time was also repeatedly confirmed with the stylist—the silvery-white hair strands paired with head ornaments achieved the exact effect I wanted.

Overall, although maintaining an elegant posture while wearing high-heeled boots and executing various prop-holding poses was not easy during the shoot, seeing these final photos made all previous fatigue feel completely worth it. For this cosplay passion I love so much, including this Red chair photoshoot experience, I will keep thinking about how to better express every detail, hoping to bring more high-quality indoor and outdoor works in the future.
