Today, my photography partner and I collaborated to shoot Zhuang Fangyi cosplay from Arknights: Endfield. The character design is truly distinctive, marrying classical Eastern elegance with futuristic mechanical aesthetics. For the wig, I wore long straight hair with a dark-green to reddish-pink gradient, topped with her iconic crimson branching antlers and pointed ears for this Elf ears cosplay, finished with red contact lenses. The makeup emphasized an enigmatic, cool-toned aloofness, with red accents at the outer corners of the eyes echoing the antlers above.
The garment details are remarkably intricate. The top features a sleeveless cut with a striking brass-toned chestplate secured with red knotted cords. A black-and-gold belt cinches the waist, flowing into a multi-tiered skirt blending pale sage green and midnight black, complemented by Black stockings. Most eye-catching are the white tactical pouches slung at my hip and the majestic tail covered in iridescent scales cascading behind. Recreating the substantial weight of these metal accents and the tail restricted movement somewhat, but every bit of effort to fine-tune each posture was worthwhile for the final cuts.
The studio set was arranged with exquisite thought. The background featured semi-sheer calligraphy gauze drapes, natural wood horseshoe armchairs, latticed window panes, and a branch of pink plum blossoms. For lighting, the key light cast a warm amber-orange tone, complemented by a colossal glowing ring behind me simulating a luminous moon. A ground fog machine sent low-lying mist swirling across the floor, which bathed in warm lighting to conjure a dreamlike, ethereal Atmosphere in this Anime-style photography shoot.
Throughout the session, utilizing props enriched the frames significantly. Half-veiling my face behind a dark folding fan or lifting a white porcelain teacup required deliberate muscle control to preserve sleek arm contours. The wooden chair was quite rigid, so certain seated postures relied heavily on core engagement to maintain balance—especially when glancing over my shoulder or leaning sideways. Keeping the spine straight while ensuring the skirt flared gracefully and the tail remained prominently displayed made it as physically demanding as an intense workout.
We shot this set using a Sony mirrorless camera, where warm studio lighting posed quite a test for white balance and natural skin-tone rendering. Fortunately, the fast prime lens combined with fill lighting effectively suppressed unwanted ambient spill, preserving the rich tactile textures of both fabric and metallic components. Reviewing the selections back home and seeing how the light shimmered across the brass armor and dark-green locks, all the day's exhaustion melted away. As someone who delights in obsessing over costume props and lighting nuances, capturing this character's unique presence before the lens was an immensely rewarding journey.
