Did I enter the standard banner? While this question has been heavily discussed lately, this Honkai: Star Rail Fu Xuan cosplay was truly completed after a long period of preparation. The shoot was held in a classical garden and bamboo forest setting, primarily to match the character's blend of Ethereal aura and mystique. In terms of costume, the color-blocking design of dark blue, light purple, and white, combined with voluminous translucent ribbons, opulent gold patterns, and intricate headwear, posed a true test of tailoring craftsmanship. The White tights cosplay on the legs paired with lace-up heeled ankle boots not only stayed faithful to the character's design, but also effectively elongated the silhouette on camera. The soft sheen of the white tights under natural light looked very gentle, making it easy for the photographer to use a wide aperture to blur the background and emphasize the subject.
The core prop of the shoot was this glowing purple crystal orb; to avoid making it look rigid, we tested the light refraction effects at various times of day. Daytime scenes were mainly shot near the bamboo grove and cherry blossom trees, utilizing the dappled light filtering through the leaves alongside tailored poses—such as holding up the orb in the first photo to show mystique, sitting sideways on a stone balustrade in the third to better highlight leg lines and curves, and holding a folding fan in the sixth to add a touch of agility. Night scenes were completed under extensive artificial lighting, where the pink glow emitted by the crystal orb formed a warm-and-cool contrast with the white flowers, and several shots lying on the picnic mat were deliberately designed for dynamic motion.
Throughout the shoot, I communicated with the photographer on how to use shallow depth of field to create visual focus, as well as how to adapt facial expressions to different environments—such as maintaining an aloof or contemplative expression to fit the character's lore. This set of photos contains rich details, from garment folds to distinct strands in the hair styling, all striving to faithfully portray a character who possesses an imposing aura yet carries deep inner stories. Post-processing also cleaned up messy leaves in the bamboo forest to enhance the overall image quality. This photo set is not just a piece of Cosplay photography for me, but a tangible expression of my understanding of the character.
