[Xishi cosplay] Honor of Kings Continuous Yearning: A Millennial Vow Amidst Dimming Lanterns

"Cherish the one before your eyes, and live up to the yearning in your heart" is the theme of this Continuous Yearning look, and this photoset is finally organized and ready. Although we encountered quite a few hurdles during the shoot, seeing the finished frames made all the effort feel completely worthwhile.

Let's start with the styling. The headpiece was remarkably intricate: a golden openwork metal crown inlaid with purple gemstones, combined with red cords on both sides and pure white long braids, pulling all visual weight toward the head. To balance the heft of the gold ornaments while preventing flyaways, securing the inner wig net took immense care. White wigs are notoriously the hardest to manage—prone to looking coarse and easily reflecting greasy glare under lighting. In pre-shoot prep, I treated it thoroughly with anti-static spray and gently combed every strand, careful not to ruin the overall airy lightness.

Regarding the costume, this Continuous Yearning attire utilizes abundant semi-sheer chiffon and light tulle. The golden corset belt across the chest features edges shaped like flames or petals, echoing the fine sequins sprinkled across the skirt hem. The primary palette is a soft gradient from peach pink to pearl white, presenting gorgeous dimensional depth under warm lighting. To keep the sleeves and skirt hem voluminous, internal boning structures were incorporated, ensuring the sleeves wouldn't sag limply when fluttering.

As for makeup, to match the character's cool, spirited, yet gentle elegance, I selected light green contact lenses. The eye makeup used soft pink and orange transitions, accented with fine glitter under the eyes to make my gaze appear dewy and luminous. The lips were painted in a natural peach shade without heavy layering, preserving the tender softness of the overall styling.

The shooting location was an antique wooden corridor and lantern stall brimming with Traditional Chinese classical charm. Yellow paper lanterns lining the walls cast a warm, radiant halo across the entire scene. The handheld Glowing prop lotus lantern was a key visual asset for this shoot. To balance the brightness difference between the self-luminous prop and ambient lights, the photographer lowered the ambient exposure, carefully adjusting aperture and shutter speed to ensure the lotus lantern's halo softly illuminated my gown without turning into a blown-out white glare ball on camera. When backlit, the lotus lantern produced a breathtaking soft-light glow, rendering my facial contours remarkably gentle.

This shoot really tested physical coordination. For example, in the final leaping dynamic shot standing on one foot, keeping balance while wearing such an elaborate gown and simultaneously controlling the prop and my gaze took numerous attempts, but luckily we caught an ideal frame in the end.

The sentiment of cherishing the person before you beautifully aligns with Xishi's gentle, reserved nature in Honor of Kings. This set of photos isn't just about creating a pretty 2D image—it aims to convey that deep devotion of waiting quietly where the lanterns fade. During the shoot, I found myself slowly immersed in that poetic atmosphere tinged with ancient longing.

I have always believed that high-quality Cosplay photography stems from meticulous attention to detail—not just fidelity in costume, makeup, and props, but the seamless fusion of expression, movement, and scene. Every time I see the finished photos, whether it's the gaze in close-ups or the dynamic grace of full-body shots, I feel all the preliminary hard work has paid off.

It was a wonderful shooting experience. Despite minor hiccups from the long train restricting movement, the final results achieved through close synergy with the photographer were deeply satisfying.
