The focus of this shoot was actually on creating the right lighting atmosphere. I wanted to recreate the calm yet confident pressure and mystical fox spirit aura of this senior Matchmaker. In terms of makeup and styling, combining the style of the original work, I chose a modified Japanese-style outfit with a relatively soft yet breathable texture. The layering of pink and white not only showcases the gentle nature of her character prototype but also retains the majesty of ruling over a region. The wig and animal ears are the soul, especially the fluffy ear details. To make them blend better with the facial contours, I made quite a few adjustments to the fit.

For the set design, we specially found an old tree with a vigorous shape, paired with classic Japanese stone lanterns and clusters of white flowers on the branches, aiming to create a sense of a hidden mountain realm. During the shoot, the use of light and shadow was pushed to the absolute limit. Especially that high-intensity backlighting, which directly simulated the scene of a full moon in the sky. Guided by the misty light and the floating red ribbons added in post-processing, the entire image is filled with narrative depth. Actually, during the creative process, many of the lighting directions and the density of the smoke were fine-tuned and matched step-by-step on-site. Although it was hard work, seeing the final cuts made it incredibly fulfilling.

As for the post-color grading, aside from my own involvement in makeup, styling, and partial post-processing, I must give a huge thanks to @不列颠大魔女 for the meticulous color grading, which perfectly brought out that dreamy, warm, yet slightly desolate atmosphere. It not only preserved the skin texture but also enhanced the cohesiveness of the ambient light.

In terms of composition, we specially tried a low-angle perspective, which works wonders to diminish the character's petite feeling and instead emphasize her powerful aura. The close-up shots combined with the blurred foreground bring the audience closer to the character, making the eye contact more direct.

I've actually been into this IP for a while now, and my understanding of Tushan Honghong goes beyond just surface-level coldness or dominance. She has her own softness and persistence, as well as the determination to protect everything. Through this Chinese anime cosplay process, I also try to feel the character's inner self, presenting this resilience and gentleness to everyone in a more multi-dimensional way. I hope this visual presentation allows you to feel the unique charm of this character. Since she said, 'Tushan is under my protection,' one must have that level of confidence and poise.
