[Phrolova cosplay] Wuthering Waves: Vintage Reverie of White Dress and Spider Lilies in Gothic style

This official photoshoot of Phrolova cosplay in her white dress is finally produced! To resonate with the lingering heartbreak of that quote—"I might have once dreamt of being inseparable from you, only to wake and find us complete strangers"—I poured immense effort into crafting the overarching mood in this Anime-style photography project.

First, let's talk about the costume's craftsmanship. The off-shoulder white dress has a gorgeous silhouette, but to support the dimensional volume of the skirt hem, I layered multiple petticoats inside and out. The outermost layer is lightweight, sheer tulle, accented at the waist and chest with scarlet ribbons, paired with sheer lace sleeves and gloves to deliver rich tactile texture in Gothic style. To complement the fluid dynamism of the dress, I specifically selected white platform high heels paired with subtly patterned White stockings, visually elongating leg lines while accentuating the character's aloof yet poised elegance.

For makeup and styling, the mint-green wig was trimmed with blunt straight bangs and woven into a low side-swept ponytail, adorned on the side with vibrant clusters of crimson floral hair ornaments. To grant my gaze that piercing 2D intensity, I wore red-toned color contact lenses, blending reddish tones through the eye shadow and finishing with deep crimson lipstick. The base makeup was kept porcelain pale, striving to achieve the porcelain delicacy of a BJD doll.

The set design was the highlight of this production. We built an indoor studio scene in vintage Gothic style: a dark brown European leather sofa framed with gilded carvings, backed by heavy deep-red velvet drapes, and vintage floral still-life oil paintings hung upon the wall. The floor was laid with black-and-red tiles and intricate floral rugs, draped across wide areas with crimson velvet fabric. For props, we prepared a violin, bow, open sheet music, a vintage full-length floor mirror with a gold frame, and a brown leather suitcase. Red floral props served as the visual focal points, scattered naturally throughout to create a vivid dialogue with the red-and-white color palette.

During shooting, the lighting relied on dramatic, high-contrast chiaroscuro. The key light cut in from the side to sculpt facial contours into sharp definition, while the background receded naturally into deep shadows, highlighting the striking clash of white, crimson, and gold. The photographer utilized frame-within-a-frame compositions extensively, using the foreground's gilded picture frames and scattered red blossoms as natural framing elements.

To embody the storytelling inherent in Phrolova's character in Wuthering Waves, I explored diverse postures: playing the violin, leaning against the edge of the sofa, and reclining across the ornate carpet. When holding the violin, the gaze needed to be slightly vacant and distant, carrying a touch of detachment; yet while seated on the couch holding the crimson flower, a gentle melancholy had to emerge. Clutching the red flower in hand, it felt as though I could truly feel the emotional tug-of-war between intimacy and estrangement. The entire process was exhausting—the sheer lace sleeves frequently slipped down between movements, requiring constant readjustment—yet the moment I saw the finished photos, every trace of fatigue vanished.
