[Phrolova cosplay] Wuthering Waves Red and White Ancient Style: Mint Green Braids Paired with Red Spider Lilies

This completed Phrolova cosplay set from Wuthering Waves is finally out! Pre-production took considerable effort to bring this look to life faithfully. For Phrolova's signature pale teal-green hair, I sorted through multiple wigs before securing the closest color match. Crafting that voluminous yet artfully tousled braid alone devoured nearly half a day of styling. Crimson blossoms were chosen for hairpieces to echo the cool detachment and intense passion coexisting within her persona.

The wardrobe centers on a bold red-and-white color-blocked design. The inner layer is a deep crimson tube dress beneath an airy, semi-sheer white robe with wide cascading sleeves, accented along the hem by crimson gradient floral prints. The waist features heavy metallic hardware: an openwork gold girdle and beaded chains that cast a delicate, luminous sheen under studio lights, maximizing textural luxury. To flatter bodily proportions, the skirt was cut with an asymmetrical high-low hemline, paired with black strappy high heels to visually elongate the legs gracefully.

For makeup, the focus remained on sculpted eye definition. Blending reddish-pink eyeshadow along the outer eye corners paired with colored contacts deepened the emotional intensity of the gaze. A saturated red lip tone echoed the garments, while red crisscross neck cords served as a refined accent that elevated the styling's overall polish.

Key props included a cluster of crimson spider lilies and an ancient bound scroll. The set was dressed with faux cherry blossoms and an antique bronze-style mirror flanked by scattered red petals, leaning into a cool palette of white, blue, and mint green punctuated by warm touches of red and gold.

Emotional restraint was essential during the shoot. Phrolova radiates a melancholic, quiet, and enigmatic presence. I avoided sweeping or dynamic gestures, favoring quiet seated poses and steady stances communicated through subtle glances and minimal body language. In the first shot, sitting in profile on a plush rug with legs crossed and hand resting gently beneath my chin, I directed a calm gaze into the lens; in the fourth shot, a low upward angle captured a standing pose raising the floral branch, using foreground petals as soft bokeh framing to introduce dimensional depth.

The photographer used softboxes, and the translucent quality filtering through the sheer robes was breathtaking. Light passing through the sheer outer layers sculpted rich gradient depths across the crimson dress. The cool studio lighting brought out the luminous clarity of the hair, contrasting vividly against the red flowers. During post-production grading, we preserved the crisp contrast and cool baseline without aggressive skin-smoothing, maintaining authentic tactile skin textures.

Shooting on set was undeniably tiring—navigating the studio in high heels while keeping the pleats and drape of the gossamer robes pristine required continuous vigilance. Yet seeing the final frames made every moment of effort worthwhile. From set construction to hair and makeup, every detail was tuned to honor the character. Materializing that inner vision into concrete physical reality brought immense creative fulfillment. Studying her personality in advance ensured her singular presence resonated in front of the lens. Taken as a whole, this Anime cosplay series stands as one of my most satisfying recent works of Ancient style photography.
