This set of Misaki outdoor photos at the New Hall of Guangzhou Cultural Center is finally out. The main reason for choosing this location for our ancient style on-location photography is that the building's sense of scale is exceptional. The dark wooden eaves, bluish-grey tiled roofs, and scattered steps and corridors build a very solid visual framework, which is perfect for presenting the character's state of blending classical and modern temperaments.
I put some thought into the outfit coordination for this look. The modified black cheongsam features a high-slit design, and the golden coiled dragon embroidery against the black background provides excellent luster. I layered it with a long black trench coat worn draped over my shoulders to complement the depth of the steps and corridors. When walking, the hem catches the wind, and the trench coat's drape also modifies the overall body proportions. Paired with black high heels and a silver-framed handbag, the entire silhouette feels sharper and more substantial.
During the shoot, different compositions were distinguished for various scenes. For instance, a low-angle wide-shot was used for the staircase section; the near-large and far-small perspective makes the eaves behind look grander, and walking on the steps also showcases a composed aura. At the corridor railing, the foreground wooden pillars and railings were utilized as leading lines to capture a looking-back moment, giving the frame a sense of narrative. The weather on the shooting day turned from cloudy to sunny, so the outdoor light was actually quite harsh. During the shoot, I used the shaded areas cast by the eaves to adjust my position, avoiding overly intense chiaroscuro lines on the face and allowing the texture of the costume to be displayed more clearly.
In post-processing, white concentric ring light beams and vertical rays were added to the sky. This set of special effects was not to show off skills but to break the heaviness of a purely ancient style on-location photography scene, adding a touch of surreal elements. This actually brings it closer to the 2D atmosphere where the character belongs. It took a lot of time to shoot the entire set, but the combination of the architectural structure and the character's costume in the final photos achieved the expected results. Whether taking photos in core areas, walking on stairs, or leaning against railings, these frameworks are highly suitable for a cosplay photoshoot. It is very memorable to leave such a set of photos at this new hall. This wraps up a wonderful piece of Cosplay photography within the Blue Archive universe.
