[Blue Archive] Highlander Twins Cosplay: Refreshing Convention Photos from Firefly ACG Expo

All the convention photos from Firefly ACG Expo are finally sorted out! As the cosplayer featured in the shots, I was really satisfied with the photographer's control over color and composition when I got back these photos shot on the a7m5 camera.

The industrial-style venue background on the day of the convention was quite a challenge for lighting setup. The large overhead array lighting and concrete walls could easily make the image look grayish or create unnatural reflections. However, we prepared a clean white round rug in advance as a base. This not only facilitated color separation in post-processing, but also gave the character in the center a stable visual anchor.

This outfit features a long, straight light-green wig paired with elf ears, topped with a bright green spiral halo structure fixed at the crown. The main costume consists of a blue-and-white plaid halter crop top, paired with a matching neck card featuring a metal buckle and a white trim pleated skirt. To emphasize the athletic visual elements, the lower body is paired with pure white over-the-knee stockings, while the bright yellow cheerleader pom-poms in hand perfectly neutralize the monotony of the dominant blue and white scheme.

The first pose—sitting with cheeks resting on hands—was mainly designed to guide focus to the face via hand placement, paired with a relaxed forward leg stretch to create a casual, playful feel. The second photo had a completely different intent: I attempted a high kick with my left leg, toes pointed upward. This dynamic move tested my balance and center of gravity heavily. The photographer used a higher shutter speed to ensure the edges of the white stockings under harsh light stayed sharp without blurring, which turned out great in the final shot. The third photo picked a more iconic cheering stance, raising the yellow pom-pom high with the left arm in a swing-ready posture; this angle called for a low-angle shot to add more visual impact.

The lighting at the convention venue was extremely chaotic, with light sources of varying color temperatures coming from all directions, making skin tones prone to color casting. The photographer used the a7m5 paired with a high-brightness flash to overpower the ambient light clutter, making the facial shadow transitions look very natural without any greasy, over-smoothed skin effect—retaining the natural texture of real skin. For the white plaid pattern on the outfit, the camera's dynamic range also preserved color gradation details wonderfully without blown-out highlights. This clean, transparent editing style feels delightfully refreshing and timeless in today's anime-style photography scene, which often overuses heavy filters.

Going through several sets of poses during the shoot was physically tiring, especially as the head decoration and elf ears began to create pressure points after extended wear. But to keep up the character's energetic vibe, I tried my best to quickly adjust my breathing and facial expressions between poses. When holding the pom-poms, fingers needed to be spread out so the pom-poms remained full. The high-kick photo turned out great precisely because the photographer managed low-angle snapshot capture while maintaining sharp eye autofocus, keeping the face in crisp focus.

From costume details and prop choices to the final editing, the entire set stays unified under a clean, refreshing theme. The watermark in the bottom left corner was also kept minimal so as not to distract from the subject. As a player who loves documenting hobbies at anime conventions, this day's output felt truly fulfilling, and every attempt at cosplaying different character styles brings a unique learning experience.
