This Zhen Hai black dress look has been constantly on my mind regarding its details ever since I received the outfit. The transparency of the black stockings, the drape of the pearl chain at the neckline, the black fluff on the gloves, and the golden waist accessories—stacking these accessories together could easily look bulky, so during the shoot I intentionally let the light and shadow swallow up parts of the brightness and darkness to ensure the black has layers. Although the short staff prop is small, it nicely balances the extension line of the arm in the frame, preventing the upper body from looking monotonous.

For the set, we chose a combination of a Chinese carved wooden chair and a long plush blanket. This contrast between dark wood grain and the pure white blanket is just right to prop up the prominence of the black costume. The peach blossom branch in the background is the finishing touch; the pink and the black dress form a clash of warm/cool and light/dark, keeping the frame's color tone from sinking to the bottom. The photographer put quite some effort into lighting; the rim lighting outlines the edges of the hair with a nice sheen, and the translucent brightness of the red eyes is preserved. I really like this because Zhen Hai's character temperament possesses a calm elegance—the gaze shouldn't be too fierce nor too soft, and looking at the lens halfway downcast feels the most right.

This time, the most effort went into the details of the nails and eyelashes. To match the sharpness of the eye makeup, quite long, pointed false eyelashes were applied, but to keep the makeup from looking too aggressive, the lip color selected was a rather matte warm red, which pulls back a bit of warmth in a cool-toned environment. During photo processing, I intentionally retained the texture of the skin without over-smoothing it; after all, the textures of the black stockings and the sheer mesh neckline need realistic light and shadow to be presented, as being too blurry loses the premium quality of the costume.

Wearing this outfit is quite a test for body posture. The strapless structure combined with the weight of the neckpiece requires constant attention to the relaxation of the shoulders and neck, so during the shoot, there would be a brief pause between each movement to adjust breathing. The relaxed feeling of lazily sitting on the blanket in the finished photos was actually traded for through micro-adjustments before every single shutter release. The white fur on the floor was too slippery and the heels were thin, making it hard to stabilize the center of gravity in a standing pose, so in the end, most of the selections were sitting and half-lying arrangements, allowing the lines of the legs to stretch naturally while the black stockings reflected a just-right sheen under the soft light. This beautifully highlights her charm as a mature woman in black stockings with black hair and red eyes.

Looking back at the three finished shots, Photo 1 is relatively the most complete. The layers from the front view—including the gauze of the neckline, the trim of the gloves, and the golden minor accessories at the waist—can all be seen clearly, and the peach blossoms in the background form an excellent foreground obstruction, preventing the frame from looking too crowded. For cosplay, being able to replicate the character's temperament while adding a bit of personal aesthetic preference for light and shadow is what makes me quite satisfied with this shoot. The original design leans toward an oriental theme, and interpreting it with a Chinese ancient style cosplay setup this time didn't carry any mismatch; instead, it made the classical charm of the black dress even stronger.

Azur Lane's skin designs can truly have many different ways of expression. This black dress isn't a particularly gorgeous heavy armor style, but the exquisiteness in the details gave the photographer room to perform, hiding little highlights within the dark shadow areas, giving people something to look back at repeatedly. The indoor temperature on the day of the shoot wasn't low, and the blanket combined with the black stockings was actually a bit stuffy and hot, but seeing the final finished photos makes all the hard work worth it.

The overall logic was to retain the character's inherent tone as a elegant lady, and then reinforce the texture through the material textures of the scenery, making the photos not just a display of wearing clothes, but a true depiction of a captured moment pausing inside a certain old estate.
