[Rem cosplay] Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World: Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo Convention Photo Record

On June 17th, the first day of Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo, I finally brought the long-planned "Angel Rem" project to life. I decided on this look because I felt the combination of blue short hair and pure white feathered elements could express Rem's trait of being both resilient and gentle. In particular, regarding the large white wings on my back—although their actual weight during the shoot exceeded expectations, requiring extra care with balance while walking and posing outdoors—seeing the moment the wings spread open in the final photos made all the hard work worth it.

The entire outfit primarily uses a pure white palette, with an off-the-shoulder design, ruffled neckline, and detached sleeves all striving for a lightweight and lively visual effect. The wig was specifically chosen in light blue, paired with a white fur-textured halo headpiece, with delicate adjustments made to the makeup. I used light-colored contact lenses to increase clarity in the eyes, while eyeshadow and eyeliner emphasized contours to give my gaze a deeper and more ethereal look. For blush, I selected a pinkish tone so that despite wearing pure white clothing, my face wouldn't look overly pale.

The photoshoot took place during the evening blue hour, when the outdoor sky displayed a soft blue-purple hue. The background featured high-rise buildings near Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo, with glass curtain walls reflecting a modern urban feel. Shooting in this environment meant the light wasn't as harsh as at noon. Paired with photographer NightDiva's lighting setup—using an LED softbox for front fill light—it highlighted facial contours and clothing light-shadow gradients very well, allowing the white garments and feathers to maintain excellent texture even in a slightly cool-toned environment.

The venue was laid with black and pink non-slip mats, ensuring safety during poses. For posing, I tried various standing and seated postures. The pose in the photo where I'm standing on tiptoe on one leg shifted all my center of gravity onto a single leg, requiring immense balance; however, I really loved the playful vibe this movement brought, while also nicely showcasing the flowing skirt and leg lines. Kneeling and glance-back shots were meant to convey Rem's signature youthful charm and gentleness.

Outdoor shoots always come with many uncontrollable factors. The convention grounds were bustling with people coming and going—onlooking pedestrians, fellow fans, photographers carrying various equipment, and staff members. Yet this lively atmosphere is part of a convention's unique charm. During the shoot, I had to frequently adjust the drooping sleeves and fluttering feathers to prevent them from blocking my eyes or catching on clothing. Fortunately, I had communicated thoroughly with the photographer beforehand, knowing which angles could avoid cluttered backgrounds.

The overall styling attempted to overlay an "angel" filter onto Rem's original image. From preparation to the official shoot, this process gave me a more concrete understanding of the character. This set of convention photos captured my specific state that afternoon; considering the complex outdoor lighting, reaching this result exceeded my expectations. As a brief record of the convention's first day, I immersed myself in this focused creative state, slowly enjoying the process of turning concepts into reality. This has always been the purest motivation that Cosplay brings me—learning different costume construction and styling techniques with every new look. During this Firefly trip, although physically tiring from the posing, I am very happy to have captured work I'm satisfied with on site, leaving a genuine mark on this convention journey.
