[Umaru cosplay] Himouto! Umaru-chan's Daily life at home: Experiencing Relaxing Moments

The original intention behind shooting this photo set was very simple: to show the coziest state of Daily life at home. I chatted with the creator before, who observed me for a long time to draw Umaru well—largely thanks to me being a veteran 'himouto' (homebody slacker) myself. Apologies for being a homebody, but staying at home really feels amazing! That's why for this shoot, we skipped cold studios and set up a lived-in, cozy room. The orange Umaru cloak is the soul of the look, paired with a white top and red shorts, and most importantly, large bottles of cola and scattered snacks. During the shoot, I relaxed completely, treating it just like my own home. Lounging on the mat playing with that blue-and-white long plushie, or holding a big bottle of cola barefoot, I felt completely in character. I chose a bright orange wig that echoed the orange cloak nicely. Photographer Yunjian Glow was wonderful at capturing candid moments—no forced stiff poses, just snapping genuine moments of snacking, zoning out, or holding a bottle and laughing out loud. For such a beloved character, being overly polished looks contrived. Visuals like these—a bit messy, a bit casual, comfortable whether sitting or lying down—feel much closer to the true Daily life at home of a himouto. The shoot was effortless, like visiting a friend's house: munching on chips, sipping cola, glancing at the window light, in complete harmony. I hope everyone feels the coziness of wanting to unwind in your own little sanctuary through these photos. This was also my little personal wish in bringing the character to life. The placement of props was carefully considered; slightly retro wooden cabinets paired with a vintage radio created a nostalgic and warm home atmosphere. Being wrapped in the cloak gave such a strong sense of security, which I deeply enjoyed during the shoot. Posing-wise, I deliberately recreated classic postures: sitting cross-legged while eating snacks, or holding up a big bottle of cola while lying down—such casual postures fit the character lore best. In fact, to recreate that authentic slacker state, I didn't even wear socks, stepping barefoot on the mat with complete freedom. Fluffing up the hair with a lazy expression brought the entire frame to life. I especially loved the warm sunlight filtering through the curtains, whose yellow glow was deeply calming. Characters don't just exist in 2D; through shoots like this, it feels like she lives right in my world. Rather than posing for the camera, I was genuinely immersed in a world of snacks and soda. When the shoot wrapped, the photographer joked that I was practically playing myself, reluctant to toss even the snack wrappers. Truly, being your authentic self in your own room is the greatest joy this Himouto! Umaru-chan cosplay brought me. Looking at photos of myself holding cola toward the lens brings a natural smile—that stress-free joy is the true essence of the homebody life.
