[Kochiya Sanae Cosplay] Shape of the Wind Frozen by the Shores of Dali Erhai Lake

This photo set of Kochiya Sanae Cosplay was taken at Dali Erhai Lake, centered around the theme of the Shape of the Wind. It was a sunny day, but the wind in Dali was much stronger than expected—perfect for blowing the skirt and ribbons into dynamic, fluttering moments. The location was set among lakeside trees and rocks; water reflections combined with surrounding greenery matched the cool, crisp ambiance of the character's blue-and-white color palette.

For the shots on the slippery lakeside rocks, maintaining careful footing while posing against the wind to elongate body lines was essential. The outfit features a blue-and-white base with gold-thread embroidery, wide cuffs, and multi-layered skirts, which were intricate to wear; the layered hem easily tangled in the wind, requiring an assistant's help on the side. For makeup, blue contact lenses were chosen to complement the green hair, with a matte base to accentuate the depth of the eyes. The white snake prop had a great soft texture, held naturally in hands and coiled around the neck for engaging interaction. The ribbons and golden bells were key to enhancing dynamic movement, flying along the wind's path to intuitively trace its direction.

Wind tousling the wig was inevitable, requiring the photographer to catch candid moments of hair in motion, making the images look far more lively than static posing. Using a high-speed shutter in aperture-priority mode, sunlight filtering through leaves cast natural, dappled light and shadow across my face. The carriage shots utilized natural light from a single side window—a harsher direct light that highlighted hair texture and skin translucency. Hard lighting tests base makeup uniformity, which the makeup artist handled adeptly.

Composition initially prioritized centering the subject along the central axis for easier post-processing. Retouching focused on garment folds and hair strand textures to simulate natural wind-blown draping, adjusting water reflections to make the scene more luminous. For ancient-style characters in Touhou Project, fidelity under natural light requires delicate balance: avoiding a generic historical costume look while highlighting distinct 2D anime charm. Dali Erhai Lake is exceptionally suited for Ancient style photography; weeping branches and water ripples enhance depth. Capturing movement along the wind's direction yielded the most natural results, despite the physical challenge of maintaining stable expressions in heavy wind. Looking back at these photos, the aerial lines formed by the skirt and ribbons truly bring a compelling sense of speed and narrative depth.
