This Reimu Hakurei Cosplay photo set has been sitting in my backlog from six months ago, and only recently did I pull out the raw photos to edit properly. Looking at the final results, I can't help but feel that the color tones and lighting carry a nostalgic, vintage ambiance—whether due to the retro filter style or shooting in such an antique courtyard by the water.
Putting on the inner layers of the Red and white shrine maiden outfit was quite intricate. The lace across the chest and neckline had to be aligned carefully, and the waist sash needed to be tightly cinched. The golden embroidery on the outer red skirt is extensive and exquisite, which also made the whole garment fairly heavy. Walking during the outdoor shoot was somewhat laborious, especially when climbing stone steps. The large red ribbon bow on the head required constant attention; paired with golden tassels and hair ornaments, it looked stunning, but easily snagged on branches or got blown askew by the wind, requiring frequent angle adjustments to stay perfect.
The shot sitting on the stone railing is one of my favorite compositions. The photographer had me extend my legs forward, nicely highlighting the pairing of white lace socks and brown leather shoes. Many classic vintage photos favor this aesthetic, so I intentionally chose these socks when assembling the outfit. This pose elongates the silhouette well, though sitting on the railing in a skirt meant watching out for dragging the hem on the ground. To capture a good dynamic shot, I posed multiple times and found the skirt hem slightly smudged by the stone afterward, but the resulting photos made it completely worthwhile.
For the crouching shot by the water, the background consists of dark water and rocks. The photographer utilized the reflections and bokeh on the water's surface to craft a captivating ambiance. In this pose, I turned sideways to look back at the camera while holding the gohei with colorful streamers, creating a cinematic feel as the breeze blew.
In the shot leaning against the wooden lattice window, the backlighting was beautifully done; sunlight filtering through the wooden slats gave off a warm, cozy glow.
Even though half a year has passed, I still adore this vintage-infused Touhou Project Reimu Hakurei cosplay photo set. Pulling them out to organize and polish recently feels like giving a proper tribute to my hard work during that outdoor shoot.
