During this photoshoot by Erhai Lake, we were blessed with exceptionally cooperative wind. To capture that sense of Reimu Hakurei dancing with the breeze, I brought along my full costume setup. This red-and-white shrine maiden outfit is rich in fine details, particularly that enormous red bow which stood out vividly amidst the sea of flowers. The skirt boasts generous layering—the white ruffled flounces combined with the red jagged hemline created wonderful depth with every step. The sleeves are detached, featuring red lacing along white arm-sleeves that allowed complete freedom of movement for hand gestures.

For props, I prepared a short staff adorned with golden bells and a gohei with white paper shide. To heighten the visual impact, I tied long streamers in red, yellow, blue, and green to them. I originally thought shooting in a flower meadow would be pure elegance, but Dali's winds were truly fierce, frequently tangling the ribbons and paper streamers into knots. Every cloud has a silver lining, though—thanks to this very wind, the frames gained an effortless, soaring dynamism that brought the photos vividly to life.

We found a meadow blooming with pink and white cosmos flowers. To seize the most flattering light, the photographer constantly explored different angles. One sequence shows me sitting atop a massive deadwood log, with the shimmering ripples of Erhai Lake and a small yellow boat on the shore serving as the backdrop. Seated on the weathered trunk, wearing Black stockings (over-the-knee socks) naturally accentuated the leg contours. When the wind whipped up the skirt, it struck a visual chord of airy lightness balanced with grounded strength. We leaned into low-angle perspectives, which not only captured the sky and foliage, but also framed the colorful ribbons billowing across the air.

Wielding the gohei required holding my arms elevated for extended periods, putting my forearm strength to the test, yet I held each pose patiently so the paper streamers could arc into graceful curves. While the entire shoot was physically demanding, previewing the camera screen and seeing frame after frame looking as if they had crossed over directly from Gensokyo made every ounce of effort worthwhile. Erhai's sky was pure blue, the clouds billowed stark white, and sunlight filtered softly through the branches with exquisite gentleness. This felt like more than just a shoot—it was a deep resonance with the character, following the whispers of the wind to preserve an unforgettable memory in this breathtaking place.

Running through the flower field was an absolute workout. With the grass growing tall, I had to watch my footing carefully to avoid tripping while keeping my facial expression composed and serene. Reaching a hand toward the camera or turning back with a subtle glance were all efforts to capture both the shrine maiden's solemn dignity and her whimsical, otherworldly aura. I paid careful attention to the fabric's quality as well; to prevent the garment from appearing flimsy, I spent extensive time selecting the inner lining, ensuring it would not become see-through under direct backlighting. Because the outfit's red was intensely saturated, we deliberately avoided cluttered backgrounds, favoring expansive meadows framed by lush trees. Makeup required meticulous care as well, with the eye look refined to mirror her spirited, luminous essence.

The fine details of the props were another area I focused on intensely. Every little bell along the staff caught the sunlight with radiant glints, which is why it naturally anchored the visual center in low-angle compositions. The crisp geometric lines of the gohei with its white paper shide traced clean trajectories against the expansive blue sky. On outdoor locations, rapid lighting shifts are always the greatest challenge; while Dali enjoys plenty of sunlight, drifting clouds caused frequent fluctuations between light and shadow. We took breathers whenever the light dipped and jumped right back into character the second the sun pierced the clouds. In the sequence seated on the weathered trunk, the coarse bark texture offered a striking juxtaposition with the flowing softness of the skirt, and the Black stockings (over-the-knee socks) added an alluring, distinctive touch of charm. This interpretation of Reimu Hakurei blends the delicate beauty of blooming meadows with the vast serenity of Erhai Lake, and I sincerely hope everyone enjoys this paradise shrine maiden steeped in summer warmth.
