[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] Magician of Touhou Project: Shuttle Through the Library with a Broom

This set of Touhou Project Marisa Kirisame cosplay Cosplay photoshoot photos is finally ready to share with everyone. As for the character Marisa, I've always felt that her witch aura carries a sense of free-spirited wildness. For this shoot, we deliberately avoided the conventional outdoor forest setting and focused our eyes on this vintage solid-wood library, attempting to recreate the atmosphere of her sneaking off to steal books at the Hakurei Shrine or Scarlet Devil Mansion library.

Getting back to the outfit styling itself, the biggest challenge in recreation was undoubtedly that wildly oversized wide-brimmed ruffled hat. To support the hat's full volume, internal boning was added; although wearing it felt very heavy and severely tested head balance, the resulting fluffiness and layering fit the character well. Paired with a long wavy blonde wig, it easily aligns visually with her image as a blonde magician.

The upper body adopts an off-the-shoulder design trimmed with white lace, along with a dark bow on the chest and a metallic necklace pendant, looking exquisite and vintage. The waist uses a wide black corset that cinches the waistline very crisply, paired with a small brown leather belt and a crossbody vintage brown leather waist bag. This waist bag not only adds details and layering to the overall outfit, but also adds a practical atmosphere to her adventurer character concept.

The lower body skirt adopts a voluminous layered mesh design—the outer layer is beige tulle with ruffles, while the inner layer is a black fabric dotted with starlight. This splicing gives the skirt a dynamic lightness when moving. On my feet, I paired black chunky-heeled lace-up Martin boots with white socks; this mix-and-match of rugged boots colliding with a soft lace skirt creates a distinct personal flair.

Speaking of props, Marisa's iconic broom was vital during this shoot. The long wooden handle was tightly bound with hemp rope to the straw broom head, offering excellent real-world texture. In a wooden environment like this library, the straw broom harmonized wonderfully with the wooden bookshelves and carved leather sofa in the background.

The lighting setup on the day of the shoot was also something I was extremely satisfied with. The photographer used large areas of warm-toned lighting combined with hidden candle light sources in the background, creating a soft, dim glow reminiscent of a magical world, beautifully highlighting the luster of the leather sofa and the texture of the red carpet. To accommodate the heavy patterns on the carpet, we put quite some thought into switching between standing and kneeling poses; especially the single-knee kneeling pose in the second photo, which showcases the voluminous layers of the skirt while naturally presenting the pairing of leg lines and boots for this Library photoshoot.

The biggest challenge during shooting was actually controlling that massive hat. Because the brim was so large, slightly lowering my head would block lighting on my face, so my neck and shoulders were constantly exerting strength throughout. Furthermore, because the skirt had many layers and the boots had a certain heel height, extra attention was needed regarding skirt flow when posing in dynamic stances to avoid looking bulky. Of course, the state presented in the final adjusted photoset remained quite nimble.

The classic phonetic pun "Mo-Ni-Sha" has also been a source of warm affection for this character. Though she seems carefree and outgoing on the outside, she pursues magic with ultimate dedication. This cosplay is not only a recreation of her appearance, but also a tribute to her focused spirit. I hope everyone can feel the unique charm belonging to the magician of Touhou Project conveyed through these photos in 2D style.
