[Kumiko Omae Cosplay] Blue Sky and Railroad Crossing After School, Visiting the Seaside Street with a Euphonium

Putting on this deep brown sailor suit, tying the red bow tie on my chest, and holding that iconic brass euphonium in my hand, the "after-school time" officially begins.

The scene for this shoot was selected on a seaside street with a strong sense of Japanese daily life, right next to the eye-catching yellow-and-black railroad crossing signal lights and the "No Vehicles Allowed" sign. The white stairs of the pedestrian overpass stretch out lines under the blue sky, creating that relaxed after-school youth atmosphere.

In terms of equipment, a Canon R6 Mark II camera body and a Tamron 35mm F/1.4 lens were used. It must be said that under the high-contrast sunny day outdoors, the performance of this combination was truly outstanding. Opening the aperture wide to 1.4 not only yields a very beautiful background blur effect to isolate the subject from the complex street views, but the Canon R6 Mark II color science also perfectly presents that clean, translucent cyan-blue tone of the sky.

During the shooting process, because the musical instrument prop itself has a non-negligible weight, holding it while constantly adjusting poses—such as looking back, holding it sideways, or squatting by the roadside—was indeed a test for arm stability. Fortunately, the camera's eye-tracking autofocus function was incredibly powerful; even under direct sunlight or during large movement changes, the focus remained precisely locked onto the eyes, significantly reducing the waste rate.

This brown JK uniform paired with white knee-high socks and leather shoes fit seamlessly into the environment of this seaside town. The photographer helped capture shots from several different angles, some looking down while standing on the steps, and some remaining completely still during long exposure shots amidst the crowd. Whether shooting from a high angle on the overpass or utilizing the railroad crossing railings as a foreground, we tried our best to completely preserve this picture full of school youth energy from Sound! Euphonium.

Although shooting under the scorching sun while wearing a full set of uniform, the blue sky, white clouds, the seaside breeze, and this brass wind instrument in hand all made it feel as if I had truly returned to that school afternoon full of music and ideals. The final texture of the photos is very translucent, and the overall atmosphere is fresh and natural, completely maxing out this daily after-school vibe for this cosplay photoshoot.
